INTERNAL ZIP/0S 1.14/BOOT DISK/PROBLEM

I just installed an iomega 100mb zip in to my MPC2000xl, it didn't recognize it until I installed the old 1.12 os. After I did that It saw it, then I tried to upgrade back to my 1.14 os. Once I did that then it would only boot from a disk and not from the internal memory. Is this the way it is supposed to work. I don't really want to have to use an os disk, I really like the way it boots from the internal memory like it always has. funny thing is when I go back to ver. 1.12 os it will boot from internal memory and see the internal zip, but I am not sure I want to use that old os, espcially with the internal zip disk as I have read where there are problems with disk becoming damaged or corrupted. Is there anyway to have an internal zip drive and use 1.14 without having to boot from a disk? Please help if you can.

You can't load the Iomegaware onto the MPC so it won't help except to maybe format your zipdisk on the PC which still won't help the boot problem.

Try redownloading the OS and/or another ZIPdrive. That might help.

Now I have it so that it will boot with out the os disk, but the first time after you load os 1.14 it will boot in without a disk and will recognize the internal zip, but when you turn it off and turn it back on it boots in as usual, with out a disk, but then it does not recognize the zip drive. This is driving me crazy.

Sounds like it might be the actual ZIPdrive. Try and find another ZIPdrive to test. If it's not the OS problem I think it would be the ZIPdrive. That's what I would try if it was me.

Put in another zip drive and now my problems have gone away. Same make iomega, but now it works fine. Thanx for your help LAMP! Time to go and produce a hit.

Some ZIPdrives work and some don't, no one knows why.

Lamp, do you know how I can now take my zip disk and pull the files onto my pc so I can back them up on a CD??????????????

This has been covered so many times, try doing a search and find out how different people do it so you can choose the best route for you to take.

Belive me I did a search first. I think I need to be more detailed. I have ZIP disk that were formated on the MPC and has files on them and my PC won't read them. I won't to know if there is anyway to copy those files to PC and then burn them to a CD. And in response to my other post that you said just download the OS bin and put it on a zip, I was also talking about zip disk that alreay had been formated by the MPC and had files that I need to keep. But that is a moot point being that I have a Zip drive that works now and allows my MPC to boot from the flash memory.

PC cannot read MPC formatted disks.

What I would do if it was me:

Write down all the names of your files for the song(s) that are on the
MPC formatted disk (We'll call it MPCDISK). Format a different disk on the PC for FAT16 (We'll call it PCDISK).

This is the part you might hate and loath. On the MPC, rename your 8+ character files on the MPCDISK to 8 or below characters.

Save it all (APS, ALL, all of the PGM's) on the PCDISK (this disk should be readable on the MPC now, if not then use IOMEGAWARE to format the PCDISK). Take the PCDISK back to the PC and you should be able to save to your PC.

When you make a PC disk from now on try to stick with 8 character limit filenames in order to save yourself from future headaches....
