Problems wth the Data Wheel

First, as usual I searched for this topic on the boards so I should be good on the "search it replies"...out of no where in the middle of doing a beat my data wheel starts buggin...I turn it to the left to go down a sequence and it either doesn't move or it makes the sequences go up! It takes FOREVER to name a sample with it because if it's on "S" and I turn it to the left to get to "R", it goes in the opposite direction to "Z" and now I'm stuck using the next sequence key and using the pads to name samples. The only place where it seems it doesn't have a problem is when I'm truncating samples (off topic for a sec, whenever I sample something and go into the "trim" page, my sample always starts @ 4410 and not @ 0...I can't remember if it always did this or not...is that the norm?) So my question is does anyone else have this problem, is their an easy way to fix this and if I have to take it into a shop would this type of problem be expensive? Good looking in advance for any help...

Yeah I've had a similar problem a couple of times, I just turned it off and started it again and this seemed to sort it out. I reckon it's a bug cos' I did the data wheel test and it was working fine.

Ouch sounds **** up man, but I always use the pads to name samples, typing out letters is faster than scrolling any day.
The trim thing I think thats from putting a lead in on your samples like 4410 is 10 milliseconds, check your sample window it should say, to the right of sample time.

does the problem stay after you rebooted your MPC ?

Yup...might take about a hour, but the problem seems to always come back...I guess I'll have to live with it cause with a newborn daughter and trying to get a house...this MP is only going in the shop if it blows up! Just didn't know if their is an easy way to fix it...

You say it comes back after a while, not immediately. Does it occur when you are working on a certain project or does it happen with whatever song/program you're working with?

reload your os
(corrupt os)

reseat your ram
(unseated ram)

load up a different project, song, seq and see if it still happens
(corrupt song, seq, sample data)

load from different media
(bad read from media)
