CRITICAL MPC REPAIR QUESTION (Power?!?)

Peep my sad,sad story

Last night, I went to turn on my underused MPC 2000XL, and it started tripping.

It never shut fully on. The LED Screen just kept flashing on and off consistently.

Changed Power Cords....same thing.
Switched Outlets....same thing.

I have kids...but I didn't see a sticky residue on the machine, so I figure that my power supply just went bad.

BUT!!

I wanna make sure somebody else has had this same problem...because these punks in Chicago want to charge you $60 just to look at your machine and get a diagnosis...PLUS they try and overcharge to fix. I'd rather fix the damn thing myself. I figure if I can repair computers...and I installed my Zip Drive on the MPC...it should be a piece of cake.

HELP ME! PLEASE! TELL ME YOU'VE SEEN THIS BEFORE!

I would try opening it up and check the power circuit board and make sure all the "peg contacts" are soldered correctly on the board. When I first got mine (second hand) it would power up and then power down in mid-work. Sometimes it wouldn't come on at all. I opened it up and saw that some of the pegs on the board weren't fully soldered. Went to home depot, bought a soldering kit for $15 and never had the problem again.

Asking me to break out a Soldering gun is like asking a Fat Babe to eat a salad at Old Country Buffet...

The shit COULD happen in theory...but it just ain't likely.

One of my boys had the same trouble with his MPC60. Come to find out, the power cord went bad (had an intermittent open in the line) from him disconnecting the MPC60 from the wall outlet by grabbing hold of the power cord and not the plug. If that don't work, save some $$$ by not eating at Harolds Chicken Shack and pay for the diagnosis. (a lil Chi-town humor there!)

Damn...I don't wanna pay these bastards. Already changed the power cord from the one on my PC and the one on my Monitor.
