Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Got my 2000XL in the mail yesterday - have done nothing more with it so far than just plug it in and turn it on - have not 1/4"s going into it or nothing like that...all the buttons and pads seem to be working, but when I'm **** with tempo and all that, the data wheel isn't moving the numbers around...it's busted right? If so...how much does something like this cost to fix and can I avoid sending it to Akai to do so....I'm in Boston...

You gotta highlight the block that you wanna change with the data wheel then turn it and see if it changes.

Yeah man! I just bought my MPC about 2-3 weeks ago and after a weeks use...my jogwheel busted already! I called akai which recommended me to a repair shop in Cali that told me if you take the jogwheel off you will see a little nub or stem that it sits on...similar to a rotary fader. Anyways I forget what this is called but it's only the size of a tictac but it's programmed and soddered down to your main MPC circuitry so brace yourself for the price.............................................................................................................................................$45 for the peice, Plus you have to pay additionally for installation labor, plus S&H to cali and back if you don't live in cali....totaling about a little less then $100.00

This is why, my mpc is out of service until january 04' and I have continued working on skratching and mixing untill then!

Btw...theres a repair shop in NYC if thats closer for you!
just go to http://www.akaipro.com and follow the repair links (Call cali's shop first to get the # for NY's shop!)

good luck, let me know what you find out because im still wondering myself!

Not for nothing, but that is a very fair repair price.
