You can change sample params in the trim screen How could I have missed this one I love it when I find a new screen on the XL, just when u think u know it all

well on the 2k i think there's a params screen in TRIM mode, but its not the normal params. you cant do the same thing in trim mode as you can in PROGRAM mode...but im not at the crib so i cant say for sure

That's what i think Jac was saying right?That you could access the params from the trim screen.

That's why I love the mpc - it's so deep you still find new functions after years of ownership. I just figured out you can transpose midi stuff live while the sequence is playing. I didn't know you could go into that window while it played - found out by accident!

what screen? the step edit screen? what mpc do you have

Got the 2000xl. In the main sequence screen - you go into the misc menu, where the second seq. stuff is - there's a transpose function there - you can go there and mess with it even while the sequence is playing. You have to scroll through, tho - you can't just select +5 semitones, but you can select an individual track to transpose, or all the midi tracks.

What the hell is transpose I still dont understand.

Say you got a bassline, or a synth lead or something programmed midi - you can use transpose to change it's key. For example, you can take the bassline and move it, say, 5 notes/semitones higher or further up the keyboard. You can do it in the edit screen, too, but not on the fly.

None, I suppose. I don't have a good, proper master keyboard, though - just something to enter notes and whatnot - I don't think I can transpose from my keyboard (unless I actually play it in a different key - why would I do that when I got MIDI )

I like to do it on the fly from the mpc to test out different keys on different parts, stuff like that - or to see if the sequence would sound good in a totally different key- then maybe I'll change the whole song, or add another part in a different key, switch stuff up a bit - sh** like that.

Automatic (can be one note to many notes all shifted in the same function)
Manual (you do it yourself)

PARAMS in the trim screen is for "This is for setting sound parameters such as the volume or pitch of the sound. It is also possible to
set the BEAT LOOP FUNCTION." I've found that this param affects the sample itself no matter what pad you place that sample in.

PARAMS in the program screen "edits the note parameters assigned to the program." I've found that this is pad, program only, you'll see that if you move the sample OUT of that pad, it goes back to normal, or assumes whatever params the next pad had set.
