This is still one thing I cant really get down on the mpc, Im tired of that dead sound from when I decay the drum hit so I kinda want to hear what yall do to get the best FULL drum hits...What have yall found to be the best way to do this???I know this question can be quickly responded to with a "sample a full sound" but Im just askin outta curiosity to see what yall do...I've heard about samplin some reverb and having it trigger with your desired sound and as far as using the eb-16 Im not to crazy about puting that reverb on drum hits...so spill it :)

eq and compress your beats with effects units. even with "full sounding" drum hits you need to eq and compress at the end coz all the sounds are operating in a new audio context ie they;re not alone any more. you prolly don't want each sound to be too "full" coz then they will all clash together - they need space and need to be shaped whilst in context. also, without clean samples to start with, youy've got no hope anyway. dig?

Thanks for the reply. Also, what I ment by full was a full sample of a drum hit. Like a snare hit that runs from begining to end with out a hi hat or anything interupting it. For example, when I sample a snare from a record most of the time I can get about 75% of the hit before another instrument breaks it...Im just wondering if anybody does anything to turn that 75% of a snare hit into a full 100% sounding sample through doing some editing to the sound.I've been trying a few things and am gettin some cool results...

Hmm, you'd want to collect some clean hits then! You can download stuff from this site or do a search, there's heaps around on the net. Keep experimenting too tho!!!!

Sample as much as you can of the drum until the next hihat or whatever interupts.
Set the [Decay] at about 10-12, which will fade out what little air there is on the end of the sound. Even though it makes the sound a bit shorter, it will sound less "gated" or cut-off. (For hiphop though, the cut-up sound is actually what you want at times, so it's probably a track-by-track decision.
