Q. What type of memory will work in my MPC2000XL?
A. You should use 72-pin Fast Page or EDO SIMMS with a speed rating of 70 ns (nanoseconds) or faster. They can be either parity or non-parity (if parity is present it will be ignored), and should have gold leads. The MPC2000XL supports 16 MB and 32 MB SIMMS. However we recommend using 2 x 16 MB SIMMS because the manufacturing specifications of 32 MB SIMMS have changed slightly since the introduction of the MPC2000XL and we have discovered that not all 32 MB SIMMS will work.

While most of the time buying memory is sort of a trial and error process, I have made a short list of memory that I have found to definitely work (or not) in the MPC2k's. Regardless, you should always buy from a store that has a good return policy so you can return memory if it does not work.
Working memory:
Kingston KTM-APV/16T (16 Meg)
Kingston KTC2430/32 (16 Meg )
PNY UNIMEM16MG (16 Meg)
Mitsubishi MH8H325CNJ (32 Meg)
Simens HYB5117405BJ-60 (16 Meg)
Known incompatible memory:
Kingston KTM 7318/64 (32 Meg)
Memory currently testing (05/04/2001):
Kingston KTM4X32L

1.In order to open your MPC you will need a philips screwdriver.
2.Turn your MPC of and unplug the power cord. Turn the MPC upside-down and lay it on a soft surface
(a pillow will do just fine) and remove the bottom plate; see page 191 of the manual on how to this.
Make sure you don't loose any of the screws coz there are quite a few that need to be removed.
OK NOW..........MPC4000XL ....... SAYS..............
You Need A Good Amount of Space (I'D Say On The Floor) and Some time to be left ALONE.........
