mpc+scsi not responding

yo.

ive got an mpc2kxl, until a few weeks ago i was saving stuff onto a second hand jazz drive. then things started gonig wrong and i heard all these strange noises from the jaz drive, which eventually meant not being able to access lots of partitions on the disk, and now not even recognising the drive at all.

so i thought...dodgy drive...ill get a new zip drive on ebay and everything willb e ok. got the drive- looks new, but mpc still dont recognise it.

ive ordered a new calbe in the hope thats the problem, but i suspect the scsi fuse has blown on me mpc.

has anyone been in this situation? how much would it cost to fix the fuse £££££`s ?

anyone reccomend any way of sorting this?

i also have had trouble with my floppy drive, which basically never works.


mpcs r great machines but in my one year of experience, they arent the most user friendly or reliable machine

ur best bet is to somehow instal an internal zip drive and forget about the scsi interface. If you have scsi on ur pc and a zip drive you could transfer everything to zip disks.

Make sure that the zip dirve has its termination switch set to 'on' if it's the last item in your scsi line! Mine got switched when it was in transit once, so maybe that happened...

Don't quote me on this but it sounds like you may have blown your "SCSI fuse". Again, I'm not sure but it sounds like it. If that's the case, installing an internal IDE zip would be your best option as fixing the SCSI fuse is a ****.

Zip, Jazz are all made by other companies, not Akai. Just because Iomega is unreliable does not mean that Akai isn't.

I fix them (others MPCs) in about 20 minutes, but if one follows the manual for handling SCSI devices, I doubt the fuse is blown. I've had 6 MPC's and have never blown the SCSI fuse (and I've done some heavy mods on mine).

Your Iomega drive is more likely to fail than the MPC SCSI fuse.
