MIDI Clock or MIDI Time Code?

So Hummmm, whats the difference? I have read the manual and serached online but I still dont get it, I noticed that when I use clock my slave device has a constant MIDI input signal but I have to keep the clock source on that (ASRX) set to INTERNAL, if I change it to MIDI all sorts of strange things happen, IF i change to TIMECODE on the MPC it works...hmmm, well I didnt notice any difference in sync, works both ways I'm ust curious, can anyoen answer?

Usually depends on the device that is slaving and what you are doing. Midi clock usually works with most gear, especially if you just need them to keep their tempo in sync or if you are doing loops. Since most gear will accept midi clock and often not the others, its best to stick with that if possible. The others (including SMPTE) are typically for recording or any device that needs to match up longer sequences (usefull for starting and stopping in the middle), but they may work with other devices. Use whatever the gear likes best... but I always perfer my MPC as the master clock.

im not in front of my mpc, but when I used to track to Cubase I would use the First option...

the difference is easy to explain.

midi clock is used to synchronise to TEMPO. the tempo of the devices are locked together, including tempo-changes up and down. more useful for syncing midi equipment like drum machines and sequencers

midi timecode locks to an absolute time reference (like SMPTE). devices are synced to a TIME reference, this is more useful when recording in sync to video. midi timecode may well present timing problems when tempo changes are desired.

Thats a great answer, thanks! I understand now, I think I was using a session i already has witha different tempo on the ASRX which would explain the strange effects on my samples, started a new session from scratch with CLock and it works perefct, thanks again
