Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

hi guys...

i need some advice.

now....our band has a couple of songs that rely on the MPC for sequences.

i feed our drummer the click from the MPC.

anywho...
since forever now, i always set up his click in relation to his high-hat.
now...i'm not good with time signatures and stuff, but anywho...this is how i do it.

let's just say the BPM to a song we're playing is at 281.5bmp, now...i set the click i think at 1/8. i'm not sure.

bottom line...
it basically goes to his high-hat, which goes:
TSS-tss-TSS-tss-TSS-tss-TSS-tss....

here's my question.

what's the most general or more efficient way to have the click set up?

cuz now i'm thinking that if the click IS exactly how he generally plays his high-hat through the song, he'd be tryin kinda hard play exactly with it/or it'd be too hard for someone generally to to follow it exactly.
i kinda feel that although it is a closer reference to what he's playing, it CAN actually have a NEGATIVE effect.

so NOW i'm thinking, well...what if it's on the 1 and 3?
so...instead of TSS-tss-TSS-tss-TSS-tss-TSS-tss,
now it goes TSS-----TSS-----TSS-----TSS----

that's making me think that it be less of a weight on a drummer's shoulders cuz now he has a little room to be more comfortable and not be following so much...ya know what i mean?

i don't know.

but anyways...that's my question.

what's generally the best way to have a click set up in relation to the drumming?

please let me know.

thanx so much,

not sure how many people here are actually playing along with a drummer. if yall ever have rehearsals and stuff, why not practice getting the metronome right/ ask your drummer what he/she is more comfortable with. i see what your concern is. the metronome is actually pretty stiff. maybe if you could add some swing to it (which i dont think is possible) it would hellp out a little, but i dont know. i say take it up with your drummer man
