Just a few basic questions for you all.... First off.... i'm pretty new to this "MPCing" thing.... (I have a MPC2000XL).......... I have a few questions...

A) I want to get my song in order such as "Intro" "Middle" "End" stuff like that.......... I'm not in song mode, i'm in the regular song mode. I want to like sequence it and put it into different parts. I know i can do it like somehow tell it to play sequence 1 at one point and 2 at another point, etc... How do I get to this screen? Also, how do I copy from Sequence 1 to Sequence 2, like if i wanted the same drum pattern, couldn't I like copy it from one to the next?

B) When I save a beat? What all do I have to save to make sure EVERYTHING will be there when I load it back up?

A) press SHIFT + 1. to organise your sequences. you can make your sequences loop a certain amount of times too. read about SONG MODE in the manual. its one of the esiest functions to use. another good function for previewing consecutive sequences is to highlight the sequence name WHILE IT IS PLAYING and rotate the data wheel. at the bottom left of the screen, sometihing will appear which allowes you to select which sequence number will play once the currant one finishes. you can go to the next sequence screen by pressing NEXT SEQ above the pads. but make sure you learn the SONG MODE...its so simple trust me.

highlight sequence you want to copy and press OPEN WINDOW. copy and paste to the sequence you want the beat to be in. if there is data already in the sequence you are pasting to, it will erase it...so be careful.

B) save ALL SONGS AND SEQUENCES and ALL PROGRAMS AND SOUNDS.

A) When you say "regular song mode" I guess you mean the sequence screen where it shows the timing, bars, tracks, etc.

Anyway Song Mode is the feature (Shift / Song) that will allow you to chain together your sequences and play them from Intro, Middle, End

Its up to you how you create the sequences and determine what will play where and how

meaning the intro may be Sequence 1 2bars and Repeat (Reps) 2 times
the verse may be 4 bars and Repeat 4 times etc...

To Copy the Sequences tracks (drum patterns etc.) use the EDIT feature
on the Main Sequencer Screen and just copy from Sequences and Tracks from their

B) Saving is just a matter of hitting Shift & Load and going to SAVE
the screen gives you all the different options available to you

Thanks for the input, it was appreciated greatly.... Unfortunantly.... I have MORE QUESTIONS!!!

1st) I sampled about 10 seconds of audio into the MPC.... I used it in one of my sequences.... and i wanted to chop it up and only use a certain part of it in my 2nd sequence... After I edited the sample.... the one from the first one also changed.... Is there anyway to maybe like copy the sample or something so that I can edit it, use the sample in the first sequence, edit it again, and use it in the second sequence?

2nd) Also, after i sampled and did my track, I tried to save it.......... but it was too big to save i'm assuming, can someone go through the process with me on exactly how to save everything including the sample so that I can load it back up and everything will be spiffy clean?

Yeah, you can do what you want. Read the manual about ZONES in the TRIM mode. You can sample a large sample and then assign the number of zones (the less ZONES there are, the more of the sample you can select in one zone)....Set the PLAYX param to Zones. Fine trim the zone until you have just the part of the LARGER sample that you want to create a SMALLER sample of and then go to EDIT and JOG DOWN until you get to something like "create new sounds from zone" <--- It says somethingn else, but something like that.

Then you can assign a new name to that trimmed portion, assign to a program, and purge the rest of the sample if you want or just keep it the way it was. The old sample will remain the same but you will have a new one with the smaller part. Hope that helps.

A. read up on song mode
b. Save APS and ALL (in the SAME folder or root drive)
