Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By nyatollah Sun Sep 24, 2006 1:29 pm
Hi everybody,
I just got an internal card reader + a standard IDE/ATAPI cable as suggested by many on here. When I tried to connect the cable to the motherboard, it doesn't fit. The reason is that standard IDE/ATAPI cables only have 39 pins whereas the motherboard connection has 40.
Is there a workaround or do I have to get another cable, non-standard this time?

peace,
Nya

You'll have to find a cable with 40 pin slots. It's the same cable, just ask someone for an "old" IDE cable. Some small computer stores might just give you one.

It's the same ide cable that is used on most regular pc hard drives.. 40 pin ribbon cable.

My friend of mine hooked me up with an old IDE/ATAPI cable and everything is running smooth now. The card reader definitely speeds up my workflow.
The issue with the cable probably comes from the fact that my mpc is over ten years old now and still has the old school 40-pin connector on the motherboard.
Big up to everybody for your input.

Blessings
Nya

The mpc2kxl has AFAIK not changed its internal connectors over the years.
