Midi handshake. From the midi out of the Motif, to the midi in of the MPC. From the midi out of the MPC to the midi in of the Motif.

Since you are asking this question, it may be prudent to let you know that midi does not send audio, just performace data.

Now if you want to trigger something from the MPC on the keys of the Motif, without any info from the sound processor of the synth, then you need to turn the LOCAL CONTROL off on the Motif. You do that by going into utility mode, and go to the midi tab, and turn the local control setting to off.

On the MPC, if you want to trigger a sound from the Motif on the pads, then from the MAIN MENU you need to go down to track and change the setting of the track you are on to MIDI...You need to have the Motif in SONG or PATTERN mode and each individual track is a MIDI DEVICE to the MPC...So whatever voice you have assigned is what will play on the pads.

Keep in mind, I have only owned a Motif ES8 for about 2 days now so my Motif terminolgy may be off. Anyway, this should be enough to get you started but you need to crack open those manuals kid.
