8 outs with 8 in on soundcard?

Do any of u guys use a multi input soundcard with your 8 out?

how does it work? workflow? positive/negative?

Thats probably the reason why most people have it. You just plug the outs to the ins and record just like you would with 2 ins/outs at a time. Cuts your recording time in 1/4 (1/5 if you use the mains too).

If you have more than 8 outs to record, it helps having every sound you want seperate on seperate tracks. That way you can just mute the stuff you don't want to record on a take. You also have to have a good way to sync multiple takes in your software. You can use MTC, MMC, midi clock or my favorite, SMPTE (an option on the 2ks). Or go caveman style and start each track with a short click sound and align in the software later.

Plugging the outs into a mixer is kind of pointless for recording since there already is a mixer built into the MPC that does the same thing. Exceptions to that are if you are adding insert or aux effects, wanting the analog sound of the board, or just have perfer to have dedicated control. I personally perfer to do that in the DAW if you are using one so you don't have to re-record to change the effects.

The MPC itself doesn't really introduce any latency, its a real time machine. Your OS, soundcard and drivers will though depending on many factors. If its a problem, you'll know right away when you are monitoring what you are recording against what has been recorded. Some interfaces will allow monitoring right on the hardware to help with this. I use a traveler.

This is what I want to do, If I could have a mixer with 8ins AND 8outs than I can eq my shit on the way INTO the soundcard That would be soo dope.

8 outs would be nice on the mixer. i use the tape out to my soundcard input. when you're tracking, you cant record 8 tracks at a time, but you can do 1 at a time lol. and it dosnt take very long. it still works out. but i do it for the effects and eq and stuff. i mean, if you have a mixer that can do that stuff then you can mess around with it before going into the computer. and even further once you have it recorded.

depends on whatever mixer, but on some, the 8 outs are called SUBS(like on the Mackie 24-8 or 32-8)

If you have an 8 ins/outs soundcard, you can hook up the SUB OUTs (on the mixer) to the INs (of your soundcard) and record 8 channels simultaneously.

I never found the need of doing so, the maximum of channels I have recorded simultaneoulsy was 4.

there are these multi outputs on this one. it has 4. you think its the same thing? i never tried them out..

if it has 4, chances are you can only record 4 channels at the same time. But I could be wrong tho, I don't know what type of mixer you use.
