FOR MIDI:
They are correct^^^!! Unless you are in love with the sequencer on the triton, just use the MPC to sequence/sample and only use the triton for sounds/sampling, not a second seqencer. To do this, like he said, come OUT of the trion keyboard to IN ONE on the MPC (this allows the MPC to track your performance on the keys of the triton). Then come OUT ONE on the MPC with a second midi cable (this allows the data to be played back into the triton to trigger it). Make sure that, each time you begin a new beat, the first midi track you open on your MPC, you do ONE of the following: hit OPEN WINDOW on the midi channel number at bottom of screen, and switch 'ECHO THRU' to OFF. OR, you can leave that alone, and instead: go to the global settings in your triton, and TURN THE LOCAL CONTROL TO OFF. This would mean, when you play the keys of the triton, it sends the trigger message THRU the mpc, returning to the keyboard to trigger, instead of locally triggering from the keys themselves, you dig?. The first method I mentioned shuts off that echo thru, so it does not double the trigger messages. The second bypassed the local control so that only the echo is triggering. You use ONE of these methods to prevent doubling up the sequencing messeges when you lay down your midi tracks. If you use method one, you must do this each time you begin a new, unsaved beat. (Just turn it off once when you make your first midi track, you don't have to do it for every next midi track). If you use the second method, make sure that, if your using your Triton by itself, without turning on the MPC and making a midi track, that you switch the local control on triton back on, or you wont trigger the internal engine.
FOR MONITORING WITH THE MBOX2 WITHOUT A MIXER:
I'm just assuming this is the Mbox2 (dark blue with handle), am I right?
There are two 'line' level jacks on the rear of your Mbox. They will accept the stereo left/right full signal of a stereo output each, so one will be your MPC, and the other will be your Triton. Firstly, you need two "Dual mono quarter-inch to single stereo TRS" cables. All connector ends male. Make sure they are long enough to go from your machines to your Mbox with some comfort. Now, connect one to the Stereo Outs (L+R on your MPC, and the other end of that to the 'line in 1' on the back of the Mbox.
Do the same with the Triton: main stereo out to in #2 on the Mbox.
Now, when you will control the level of this monitoring situation with that dial on the Mbox, but of course, the individual levels will have to be controlled from the MP and the Triton. Also, keep in mind that these are just LISTENING LEVELS. When you record and play back sounds from either, they are in your computer and have nothing to do with 'monitoring' live inputs. So now, you have a basic monitoring situation.
DEDICATED SAMPLING LINE FROM PROTOOLS TO YOUR MPC: keep in mind that your MON(itor) analog 1/4 inch outs on the Mbox are probably used to go to your amp/speakers. But you have a digital stereo spdif on RCA jacks in and out of the Mbox as well. Just connect the OUT of that spdif section to your IN on the same connector type at the back of the MPC. Then, when you want to sample, scroll at the top-left of sample screen to change to digital input. ONLY DO THIS WHEN THE MBOX IS ON AND BOOTED, AND YOU ARE ABOUT TO SAMPLE, because the MPC must see a digital signal to lock to, or else you could cause a freeze. ALSO: Do yourself a favor and get a TRUE DIGITAL RCA SPDIF. You will know it's real, because it's not just gold, it costs alot more than even the best analog RCA cable. It is worth it to avoid digital errors. People will tell you you can use a regular or just a gold RCA, and you can, but don't do it. It will cause errors, and you may get a freeze. This only has to freeze you while your in the middle of making the best beat of your life (that you haven't saved yet) to make you lose all of it, and you will see why a true digital spdif cable is necessary. One more note: you are now going INTO and OUT OF the Mbox with the MPC. Make sure, when you are playing something back out of protools in order to sample from the MPC, you don't have the MPC going back to a live, armed record track. Also, make sure that only ONE volume is up: either the MPC output, OR the protools monitor volume, or you will begin a feedback loop that will turn into a digital mess. If you feel like sampling into the triton, take the cable out of the MPC (NOT while in sample mode!) and pop it into the triton. Good luck.
