I should have been clearer in my PS statement. What I meant was that I wasn't even thinking about getting a 2000XL until i saw that video, my mindset was that the 2000XL is old technology...why bother. The video showed me how functional the older gear really is. Sorry about my miswording...
I was thinking the same before I got my XL about 3 weeks ago (my first MPC). I'm sure I made the right choice. I started out using drum machines about 11 years ago, then went to Reason about 3 years ago. I dig Reason for the keyboard sounds, but I was sick of using that damn mouse or my keyboard controller for making drum beats. I did get a Trigger Finger, but that thing is a pain to set up. I was finally ready to go back to hardware. Yeah, it's old technology, but most of the sample-based music that I like was created with old technology, so...
At first I was thinking of going with the 1000 or 2500, for the USB connectivity, since I already have a ton of samples on my computer. But with the MCD on the XL and a card reader/writer for your computer, you're good to go, and transferring your samples is pretty painless, especially if you use one of those MPC .pgm creator programs on your computer.
If you have the cash to put down, I say go for it. I've been wanting an MPC for about 10 years, so this is a dream come true for me. I just wish I had more time to use it, with work and all...
