mpc2000xl and Flash Memory

Hi i was wondering if anyone has succesfully installed a flash memory interface (IDE/ATAPI) into an mpc. It would be a good way of storing/backing up files etc.

I haven't but i think you can get scsi flash card readers. There's posts here about that i think. Not sure what prices they are tho...

I considered coping one in the past but after researching I found that an external hard drive would be a wiser and more convient addition. The flash rom is somewhat a chore to locate and expensive when found. Also the flash rom doesn't add to your 32Mb max out. I came to the conclusion that even 1GB is better than 8Mb.

You are referring to something completely different, and it's not correct at that. The original post was referring to using commonly found flash memory (same that is used in digital cameras) as storage medium instead if floppy or zip. As a correction to your post, the Flash ROM Option specifically designed for the MPC does add to the 32 Meg, making the MPC a 40 meg machine.

I see, guess I should've read the post a lil closer. As for the flash rom adding to the MPC 32Mb, how does that not affect the Mpc"s memory in regards to importing sounds and or programs from the flash rom? Are you saying that I would have 40mb to use at will?

Maybe it's just for the OS?

It does not import sounds from the FLASH unless you go into the edit screen, otherwise it directly accesses them in the FLASH memory.
