ok theres this feature on the mpc 1000 where if you hit one pad the sample will begin but then you could hit another pad and the sample would stop can the 2000 xl do this to? and if so how?

It's called muting its in the program screen, param function right by where you choose poly, mono or note off theres a feild which you can select which sounds it cancells out
