Do used Zip disks have a less quality sound?

DO zip disks audio fidelity compromise each time you erase and rewrite on it. i was going to buy some used ones on ebay for my mpc 200xl , but i only want top quality file storage, its just the zip are mad expensive in the stores.

i didnt know transferring to and from disks even messed with sound quality...

sh!t, when I use floppies, I use the same old floppies I've had for a couple years lol. the same old box of floppies. i never heard a difference with those

No, they do not compromise sound quality. The read files with information on them unlike say reading a Tape which can degrade with multiple plays. The only thing you may be compromising is thefact that a zip disk can go bad and you can lose your data and an older disk may be prone to going bad eventually. If you do use zips periodically back them up ont your computer's hard drive and then burn that onto a CD s o you will always have it. That is what I do with all of my sampler files. I use second have Zips and have only had one go bad and it was a 250mb disk.

Old digital media can become more prone to errors as it gets older. Surface irregularities and mechanical degradation can affect the data on the disk. In the same way a CD can become less and less useable.

Having said that, Zip disks are more likely to fail outright before you reach that level of errors.

Now dont get me wrong, I was the number one user of Zip (and Jaz) Drives. But I have found they are very flakey. Sometimes after not using the drives for so long, the heads just die. Nothing you can do about it now, but by a new drive, and with the idea of going to MCD (Why would you do that). So from this point own. I will never use another Zip.

Anyone looking for some drives. I also have Jaz Drives as well.
