problem with scsi zip drive,, please help!!!!!!!!

i recently bought a iomega zip 100 drive for my akai mpc2000xl, and eventually the right cable to connect it to my akai, but the problem is that I can't get the akai to recognize it, whenever I scroll over the scsi device or anything to do with the zip drive it just brings up a box saying (Wait..........) and does not do anything also, when the scsi device is attached and i start up the mpc it freezes when detecting memory

I am stuck please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's the scsi id how is the termination set ?

Well, that aint it.

Scsi works by chaining different devices together. Each device on the chain is assigned a number so the computer/mpc etc. knows which device it's accessing.

It's a simple number. 1 to 15. Look at the back of your drive and look for a switch that has this simple number.

ID 5 on the zip usually works for the MPC.

Also scsi needs to be terminated ie the last device in the chain needs have to have a termination block.The Zip drive should have a little switch at the back that allows you to terminate it.

just tell us what the 2 little switches on the back of your zip drive are set to.

i don't have 2 switches just the ports to printer and zip port

Ok plain and simple; ditch the zip drive it's not a scsi drive but a parallel zip drive and those DO NOT WORK on your MPC. In a worst case scenario they will blow your MPC's scsi fuse which is a costly thing to get repaired.

thank you for your help, by reading the other posts i thought that it might be something like that, although your advice is very helpful I have a problem as I bought my zip drive from ebay, so what is the possibility that i get the same type again, any ideas, ideally I dont want to spend more than £10, can anybody find me one as I think if i buy it myself I will make the same mistake again!!!

A scsi zip drive can be recognized by 2 small grey switches on the back of the drive one switch sets the scsi id to eityher 5 or 6 and the other switch sets the termination to on or off.
But since it seems to me that you're looking for storage options for your mpc 2kxl, go get yourself an internal cf reader instead of the zipdrive. Much more reliable than zip drives and much bigger storage capacity + no moving parts = silent + less wear.

the card reader idea sounds good. basically I bought my mpc a while ago but havent really used it because i only have floppy option. i have wanted to get a bigger storage device for it for a while but it seems impossible to find the right scsi devices at the right prices. the card reader idea is great but again wher can i find one as i can't find any on ebay, what specifications shall i be looking for.
