Is this setup possible?

Okay, I here's my setup: I have my MIDI controller running into the MIDI input of my soundcard (M-Audio Quattro) so as to control my VST instruments (which I run as standalones using Chainer).

My question is this: Can I record the sound of my playing a VST instrument into the current sequence on my MPC 2kxl?? I have the audio outputs of my Quattro running into my MP and I can hear my playing when I go into the sample screen. My thing is, is there a way to record it directly to the sequence, rather than having to sample my playing and then assigning it to a pad?

If anyone has an answer to this, please help me out. Thank you.

So there's absolutely no way of recording the sound coming from my soundcard without sampling it. There's no way of getting it directly to my sequence??

So, then that means I have to drop the sequences from my MPC into either a multitrack recorder or a program like Cubase or Acid (which I've been thinking about using) and then record my basslines over that, which is what I'm trying to do.

Oh well, I guess I should have expected this. Although I love my MPC, it really makes life more difficult than it has to sometimes.

Remedial, you could always program the PC-sounds in tandem with your MPC. Sync via MIDI to MPC for your composition, then (if necessary) export a wav of the loop(s) generated on PC and import to MPC. Simple.

Nice thought, but that won't work thynctank. Chainer does not allow you to export or sync.
Sounds like you need a real sequencer on your pc as well Remedial. Sync the mpc with a pc sequencer with timecode, and record both the vsti and the mpc's in your pc at teh same time.
You can try and download some free demo's to see if this fits your bill. Give pro-tools free and N-track studio a try .
I have the Quattro too, and i use it to play vst instruments all the time. I record everything in Cubase SX, but i think you can use a simpler (cheaper) program if you're just after a vst host theat can record some tracks.

Yeah, I had Cubase SX too but uninstalled it because it was a major headache and a crazy memory hog. I figured out how to use it and everything, so I might jump back into it one of these days. One question about syncing with Cubase SX. Ever notice how SX always has a delay when you record. As in, the MP plays but SX doesn't begin recording until a 1/2 second to a second later. What was your method of getting around that?

As for me, right now I have Acid 4.0 and I'm thinking about giving that a swing. Don't know if it can sync to the MP and all that stuff but I'm about to find out.

That's not a Cubase only problem. It will happen with all sequencers. It takes a moment for the program to pick up the timecode and sync to it.
Just insert 4 empty bars before your sequence on the mpc, you can do ths in songmode.
