Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I Need some help setting up my 2kxl with Chainer (VSTi Host). Basically i have
mpc, midi A out a to PC midi in
mpc, midi 1 in from PC midi out

This works - i press a pad on the MP and it plays my VSTi through the PC, so far so good.

Problem is i record a sequence, playing the VSTi via the MPC pads fine but then i playback the sequence (what i've recorded) and get nothing?

I have a mixer, both MPC and PC's volumes are up etc.

Do i need to **** with MIDI Sync's or is this just from sequencers -> sequencers?

Any ideas?

Perhaps you need don't need to input the midi back into the MPC. Since you are just triggering Chainer's VSTi sections, then it should just be reading the sequences you laid into the MPC. That leads me to believe that the data is coming back funky into the MPC from the computer. perhaps auto generated midi data from chainer's synths, or even some clock output, is messing with the MPC sequencer. Try not coming out of the computer back into the MPC. Or did I mess this up and there is a sequencer in chainer I didn't know about?

As tupro said, I can't see the reason to send Midi in to the MPC.

Go into the Step edit page on the MPC after you've recorded a sequence and see if the Midi is actually recorded. Also check to see if there is any control change information in the sequence like volume (controller 7), program change/bank change or Sys-ex data.

Also....

Are you sure the track you're recording is on and not off. (I'm sorry, I know that's basic stuff but it's often caught me out)

:D :D

Thought so. I once opened up my MPC because it wouldn't play back sequence (it was muted). Couldn't figure it out.
