EXTERNAL ZIP DRIVE ISSUE

For months I have been pretty pissed off that I cannot access the majority of my samples easily. I have an MPC 2000 xl with a floppy drive. Thus the amount of memory for the samples is nill and the floppys are a pain. I have a zip drive on my computuer and recently bought an external zip for the MPC. I have not however been able to load any sounds into the MPC via zip disk. With the exception of the disk sent to me by the manufacturer of the external zip, the MPC does not read my zips. I was told I needed a Chicken Systems Translator, so I went and copped one. After installing it would not drag files onto the Partition of the zip disc, thus the translated discs never came to fruition because of the Chicken Systems software. Chicken Systems says its a problem and they're working on it but I don't believe that for a second when you call Customer Support its like a one man show and the one man isn't spending time working on my issue #. But I just called AKai again and still no answer and this time they said that the MPC should be able to read .Wav files regardless of a translator. So What is wrong? Do the wavs have to be Mono?

Ok let's see, here are a few questions for you:

1. What os is your MPC running ?
2. How are the 2 little switches on the back of your external zip (the one connected to the MPC) set?
3. Can you sample a sound on your MPC and save it on the external zip drive, and read it again ?

FYI:

1. The 2kxl does not need to have partitioned ZIP disks, folders work just fine.
2. The 2kxl can indeed read plain wav files 44khz 16 bit, mono and stereo. To save yourself a lot trouble stick to 8 character names without 'funny' characters.

Answers to your questions...

1. I have no idea what OS the MPC is running, I am using XP Professional on my PC. I would assume whatever OS the MPC comes with standard?

2. The back of the external zip switches are set like this:
Termination is set to 'on-1' and SCSI ID is set to '5'

3. Haven't tried saving a sound from the MPC onto the external zip.

Regarding the FYI ok that is exactly what I thought when I bought it but it has been a different story since I got the zip drive. Hopefully the answers I provided help in solving this dilemma. I definitly appreciate the time you've taken to help me. Hope to hear back from you with further assistance soon.

I am not sure who I am more upset with AKAI for not looking out and doing something with Firewire or USB (for the old 2000XL). I am sure they could have done somekind of kit or something.

Or Zip for just being lame. For years I have worked with Zips, because that was all we had. I always have about 5 of them, and keep about 2 on the side just waiting for the click of death.

But I put my MPC up for about a year, and I am just now going back to it, only to find that it can no longer ready any of my old disk. Disk it would read when I was working on them about a year ago. Not only is this a issue with my Zip, I found it to be the same way with my Jaz.

So I just upgraded and said - forget Zip! I Zipped it up and put it in a box with a bunch of stuff I have lost and might not ever be able to get back.
