MPC2000xl with Alesis Micron Synthesizer! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

I am able to record from my synthesizer to my MPC2000XL. But....When I record through the midi, I try to use a different program of sounds from my synthesizer on a new sequence, and it switches all of the sounds that I previously recorded to the new keys I loaded. It does exactly what the MPC would do if I were to load a new program of sounds onto another program. Is this a setting maybe in my Alesis Micron? Please help! Basically..The MPC has up to 4 programs you can load at a time. Does Midi only have one?

do you have a multitimbre mode on there or something to that effect? For instance, ive got a Korg synth and i can only record one track (program) from itbecause the korg only handles one program (midi channel). Now my fantom has a multitimbral mode with midi channels 1-16. That means i can assign 16 (actually 15) programs to play at once. Make sense?

I go to config on my keyboard(synthesizer) and it says MIDI: CHANNELS. Then.. Start at: and I have the option to scroll 1-16 channels.

Alright so it sounds like you can only choose what channel you use for that synth. Not mutitimbral.

Mutitimbral would be something like at least on my fantom
1. Hip Hop Kit
2. Piano
3. Guitar
4. Glocken
5. etc
6. etc

and so on. So say i aint diggin the hip hop kit or the piano I can change it to

1. Rock Kit
2. Strings
3. Guitar
4. Glocken
etc......

The thing is anything midi has 16 channels. In a multitimbral mode you are able to take advantage of all 16 channels so they PLAY SIMULTANEOUSLY (sp).

With no multimbral mode you are able to assign only one sound to any of those 16 channels. Like my korg synth, say i wanted to use a sound Trance Rave Funk Bump. I can take that sound and assign it to ANY channel i want 1-16. So say i assign it to channel 1.......

My synth is talking to the MPC on channel 1 cause thats what youve designated.

Make any more sense or am i getting you more confused?

Well sheeeit man, its time for work to be over. Hopefully i cleared it up for you. Sounds like youre gonna a need a multitrack of some sort in order to do what you want. If not im sure somebody else will throw some info your way. If not ill be back at this tomorrow.

I do have the sixteen channels though. Tell me this...on your MPC. what does it look like on your main screen under the track?

after i record a synth...I go to track 2 on my MPC to record some different synths, as I scroll through the different synths, the sounds I recorded to track 1, change, as I scroll through the sounds looking for a sample. All the sounds from track 1 change to the new sounds(patch,rhythm) that i wanted to record on track 2. So I can basically only use 1 patch the whole beat.

I'm trying to record several diffrent MIDI tracks on my MPC. Currently I have everything setup perfect to where the MPC will record MIDI data for one patch off the Roland, but if I switch patches on the Alesis than it switches the recorded note info the that patch and plays a differnt sound. How do record several different MIDI tracks on my MPC from the Alesis? And how do I make the MPC recognize that and pull up the differnt patches and MIDI info when I reload the song or sequence?

Like i said ALL MIDI DEVICES HAVE 16 CHANNELS.
Now just because they have 16 channels DOESNT mean you can use all of em at one time on SOME machines unless theres a MULTITIMBRAL mode (or something of that sort)

As stated before my Fantom has got the multitimbral mode
Example
My Roland is plugged into port A on my MP. So what i do is if i wanna use track 1 on the roland i would set the MPC to MIDI 1A. So ive recorded my piano loop to Midi 1A on the MP. So i wanna add some guitar.... go to new track and choose MIDI 2A, lay that down and so on.

Now with your synth. Most commonly you would have this plugged into port B (depends on your set up)

Now your synth doesnt sound like its got the MULTITIMBRAL MODE. Just one patch can play at a time. Again as i said:

So in your synth you can go into that Midi Channel menu and decide what channel you want your synth to talk to the mpc on. Any of the channels 1-16. I would just keep it at Channel 1.

From there on your MPC you would Choose Midi 1B and record your synth.
But you can only record one patch, no more than that because its not multitimbral.

I dont know what roland you got. If its a fantom im sure the layout is the same. Just do yourself a favor and read the manual of the roland and look for a MULTITIMBRAL MODE. Play with that and im sure youll get the grasp of it.

track 1
Ch1 on MPC = Ch1 on Micron

track 2
Change to Ch2 on both for new sounds,
(the Micron should be able to play all the channels)

track3, 4, 5....
Ch3, 4, 5... on both

More than one program can be used on the MPC in midi mode.
Look to the right of the screen, Prgm:OFF, scroll to it and change the number.

I messed around with Prgm just the other day and couldn't get the sounds back to the original.

Now! I can tell, obviously, you know your stuff. I am new to all this equipment pretty much. I know for a fact that I have all my wiring all messed up. Is it possible you can tell me the correct way to hook my synthesizer to my MPC? Then.. I also have a Amp, a midi interface, and a Yamaha Mixer that I am trying to get all pumpin at once. I have my SB X-Fi sound card running to my mixer. I know this would be hard to do. But...Im just curious if you know of any websites or anything then.
