Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By stonestalone Thu Oct 26, 2006 8:18 am
Whadup Fam,

i want to put a zip drive into my mpc2000xl and was wondering which one was compatible with the 2000xl: iomega 250zip/100zip and do it has to be IDE or ATAPI?

Also, would it be better to have the MCD or the Zip?

Thanks in advance...........

Get an internal cf reader.

I would like to disagree. We have a MPC 3000 and we use an external zip100 drive with it no problems, and we also have a MPC 2000XL with an internal zip100 drive, still no problem. As for your question I'm only familiar with the zip 100, and not the 250. The only problem we have is finding zip disks, but I got over 20 unused, so I won't need any extra for a while. If you are running an external zip then go ATAPI. But if you have a choice I would go with the MCD, because ZIP disks are old skool, but they work great. That comes from me MR 2 MPC's. Holla back

not to jinx you or anything, but this is exactly what i would have said before my zip drive suddenly gave up on me never to work again. the day before it failed on me, it was fine. i feel they're unpredictable and unreliable. good to have around, yea, but at least back all your files up if you rely on zip drives/disks. please take my advice and back your files up.

Yeah smooth all day, you always wanna back yo beats up. Even if you make beats on your computer, you will wanna have a back up on CD or DVD just in case your hard drive fails. Backups are essential, as computers are **** up's sometimes. Just a question though, did you have an external drive or one on board your MP?

While i'm here does anyone know how to sync up the MPC with the Fantom X6. I need the MP to be the master and the Fantom to be the slave.
We've figured out how to slave the MPC, but would like to do it vice versa.
Thanx

yea no doubt man. i had two external zip drives. one usb zip for the pc and one scsi zip for the mpc. the pc drive failed and corrupted my disk somehow and any disk i put in that drive after that got fu*ked. not sure how or why it happened but it did. maybe a virus? i dont know. but once i popped one of those corrupted disks into my scsi drive and tried to load it up, it fu*ked that drive, too. so i basically lost both drives, all 4 disks in about 10 minutes. dont ask why or how. lost all my files.

as far as the midi goes, if you use your MPC MIDI OUT to Fantom MIDI IN, you should be fine.

Thanks for all the info, i thought the mpc that i bought off ebay came with a floppy, but it arrived with a internal zip, 8 outs, efx board and a lot of other goodies. this dude hooked me up with some good sh!t..... still thinking about installing the card reader though. i found the link on another thread. thanks for everything. i'll be bugging you'll from time to time. i see that every question that i might have is already answer 10x's over throughout the site.

however, thanks in advance

Huh? What is "external ATAPI"?

Avoid zips. Period. Do an internet search for "click of death". Iomaga lost a class action suit for faulty Zips. That comes from someone that receives broken Zips from artists all over the world for the only Akai data recovery service. I have never received a CF card for data recovery.
