DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW......??

i chop up a sample and then i try to create a drumbeat but i cant keep the sample after i load up my drum sounds from my zip drive. the same pattern continues that i had with the sample but its the drum sounds i just finished loading up. i read the manual but maybe im missing the correct process. does anybody know what im talking about?
