about to get my first MPC 2000

I just had a couple of questions

after browsing through the forums I've read that there is a program that takes the wavs from you comp and puts them into the correct format for the mpc (Mpc Edit), and allows your to make programs for banks A-D. I assume the mpc doesn't read wav format off of a disk am I right in assuming this? Also how do you guys organize your programs for those banks, and when you spread the sample across 16 pads, does that fill up one useable bank?

The 2000 does not support WAV but the 2000XL does. To go back and forth between the computer on the 2000 you need to convert between WAV and SND. The MPC editor software can do this:

You can have 16 seperate samples per bank and you have 4 banks. If you use the 16-level function it spreads one sample over the 16 pads, but is only temporary and does not wipe out your other samples. You can manually spread them out over a bank though if you want which can be usefull if you want different pitches of lets say an instrument so you can play it on the fly.

I just checked out my MPC 2000, it can both load and save WAVs, so I don't know where you get this idea from.. do you actually own a 2000??

yea I was screwing around and it loads wavs with no problem. One more question I heard there are scsi to usb adaptors, if I buy one can I buy an external hard drive and connect it to my mpc with no issues?

or so I think I have one question, is there a way to set the mpc to cut off a pad in the mid play as soon as you hit another? It would make creating chop variations a lot easier if I knew.


BTW I found an old zip scsi laying around (roomate is a computer tech) and I bought a usb zip drive to hold me over until I get the cf drive. Also Micro center has a sale going on for 1gb compactflash cards for 21.99

thanks man, but i tried that with mono, but i think that only affects the pad itself from overlapping. I hate to use the note off but I may have to go that route

mpc editor is wack man.

all you got to do is format a floppy in your pc an just drag an drop wav files onto it.its cake.

I wouldn't call it "wack", seeing it does save time in the long run. By creating the .pgm file w/ sounds on the computer, it negates you having to load up the .wavs you want to the a program, then turn around and re-saving it to a disk.

speaking of pre-created programs, I can't figure out what the infatuation with various drum sites selling mpc format drum kits that fill up all 64 pads, which gives you the end user no space for samples or anything else you may want to add, I mean I can see taking up Banks AB, or even Banks ABC, but come on all of them ........................then again maybe I'm missing something

I'm with you on that...got to have some room for my stuff. But you know...some people work it out in other way....

yeah theres ways you could get around it......better yet,most of those sites give you the option to download it in wav. format so you could just pick individual sounds an make your own programs with mpc-editor or whatever you use.that way you could make it smaller to save you room for samples an what not.
