This is driving me crzy. Can't find any reference in the manual.
So sometimes when sampling something you save it, but don't assign it to a pad, or more importantly, when you copy a sample on the XL, it doesn't prompt you to assign it a pad. HOW THE $&^# do you assign a a pad to a padless sample?

When you saved the sample you probably had the "note off" selected. So what you should do is look for the sample with the data wheel, scrolling thru .wavs or .snd files. When you find the sample, save the sample and assign it to a pad by pressing that pad (remember which bank also) or using the data wheel. I'm not in front of my MPC, so I may have left something out.

It's a fresh sample so its on my MPC,
not on a disk...when I trim I can
see the sample but I can't get it on a pad.
Are you saying
that I have to save it to
a disk and then reload it, at which
point I could assign it to a pad?

you assign sounds to pads by going into program mode (shift + 6), make sure you're in the assign screen (F1), hit the pad you want to assign the sound to, move the cursor to the SND field, and then turn the data wheel until you find the sound. simple.

check the manual page 117.

Read your manual.
