still cant save more than 50mb on my zip

I originally posted about this about a month ago. I have an external 100MB zip drive & once I hit the 50-51mb mark I get "Disc Read Error". Judging by the replies to my post I thought the problem was because my zips were formatted in the MPC so I bought a new zip disc & left it PC formatted. Well, I just ran into the same "Disc Read Error".

I don't think it's a faulty SCSI cord. I just used it to record from my digital recorder right to an external hard drive. the zip drive makes 3 pretty loud clicks before it gives me the error.

Do you think that possibly my problem is with the zip drive itself? I got it 2nd hand along with my digital recorder. The curious thing is that it would not work at all with the the recorder. It would recognize the zip drive but I couldn't even get as far as formatting the disc. I would get the same clicking noise & an error message.

Who thinks I should just get an internal zip drive?

I seem to remember that there is a limitation of the number of files that can exist in the root directory of a zip disk on an MPC.

It sounds like you're overlooking the obvious. On your load or save screen either one, move your cursor down to the letter A and turn it to the right once. If it's partitioned it will turn into the letter B. As for the new zip you purchased it wouldn't be a bad idea to format that one on the MPC provided that you aren't using it on the PC as well. When you format your disk on the MPC just move the cursor to the letter aA and turn it to the right to set the number of partitions you desire.

Your right, I overlooked that he "left it PC formatted". Not all ZIPS come pre-formatted and the best thing to do is to format it first before use. Good catch. I've had that happen before, I just formatted and went on about my business.

The Zip can only store a certain number of files in its "main" or root directory. What you have to do is create a couple/few different folders on the disk and then store the samples in the folders. Then you will be able to fill up the whole disk.

Leave the zips PC formatted.
Go to the "Load" screen on the MPC, and press OPEN WINDOW.
At the bottom you will see the "New Folder" icon.
Create and name your folder(s).
Then just save your files in the folders instead of in the root directory.

I'm willing to bet that will solve your problem.
