Hard drive question

Im going to buy an external hard drive for my 2000xl, is there anything I need to do once I get it? Do I need to format it etc and if so how?
I tried searching for answers but couldnt find much. Thanks

Most of these drives can be formatted via scuzzy output.
I have an old 4.3 Gig External drive that works great and I bounce samples back and forth between
2000XL and 4000
