MPC with the ASR-10, help please!!!

Hi, I have the mpc 2000xl and an asr-10 and I want to use the sequencer of the mpc and the sampler of the asr. I have a drum track layed down in the mpc and a sample in the asr and I do not have a problem to sequence it. It plays all good but when I play the keys on the asr, the sample plays at many times together (sounds like it was passed through some effect) because the midi is looped. I have no idea how to deal with this eventhough I went through the asr forums, mpc forums and the manuals too. It is a shame, I know, but I would deeply appreciate any help. The midi cables are both ways midi in and out, not plugged in the midi through on my asr. Thanks

I am pretty sure it is an audio loop. I have midi from the mpc to the asr, midi from the asr to the mpc, record out from the mpc to the soundcard, record out from the asr to the souncard and inputs to the asr and the mpc from my turntable (passed through a dj mixer). Í just need to know how to set it in the asr and the mpc (i guess the mpc is pretty straight forward, the asr seems to be a problem, i copped it just a few days ago) Thanks for help, Lampdog!

That's is your problem, audio route loop.


Solution, when you know the audio loop is going to be a problem turn off the line in buttons on the ASR, you are always leaving them on/active I bet. Just turn them off so no audio comes into the asr.

Thanks Lamp, but this is not the case. The inputs to asr are from my turntable and nothing comes out of this when I´m playing the sample from the asr. I plugged it out just to make sure and it didn´t help. The problem is that when i play the sample on the asr keys, it sends the midi to the mpc and the mpc sends it out back to the asr (but it is working when i play it by pressing the pads on the mpc-no midi loop). I just don´t know how to set the asr or the mpc.

No, the mixers is routed to the asr, not the the soundcard. There is not a problem with the audio cables, it is the midi setup. How do I change to local control?

are the 2 leds on the source monitor red? if yes... push both "A" and "B" at the same time, and the led's go off.

Yes, still the same problem, but thanks for help. I repeat, it is not an audio loop, but midi loop. I want to play the samples from the asr and record them to the mpc's sequencer via midi. How do I do it without any problems?

I found this on an another forum, but there was no solution to it:

Because when you play the sound it is playing twice because of a midi loop. The sound is playing on the ASR when you press the keys and the mpc is sending a midi signal to play on the ASR.

I found this on an asr-10 forum:
To run the ASR so it uses the MPC sequencer, so all the notes you play on the ASR record in the MPC sequencer and you do "Step Edit" to edit your ASR notes on the MPC, heres what ya have to do....

1st off you need 2 midi cables.

ASR in to MPC out A .

MPC in A to ASR out.

Do the same as before (Shift midi/sync, out A, midi clock) but also do the midi in the same way.

Now on the ASR go "edit, system midi" scroll to "Transmit On" and make it "instrument channel".

Then scroll along to "Midi in mode =" and make it "Multi".

Now say for instance you have a drum track as track-01. Down the bottom left of your MPC screen, say you wanna add bass from your ASR to your drums. Where it says "S:" change from drum to midi. now to the right of that it will say "off" change that to whatever number your bass intrument channel is on the ASR and always make sure the midi channel on your MPC corresponds to the instrument channel on the ASR that you wanna sequence.

So I set it up exactly the way it is written in this post, but I'm having this midi loop. Thanks for help!!!

It's definately a midi loop problem. I go through the same problem when I play the basslines from my ASR into the MPC. When you find a solution post it up.

If I find one I'll do the same.

you need to turn midi soft thru off on the mpc. go to the track part of the main screen next to where it says DRUM, open window on a device, soft thru off.
