muting tracks during sequence play back on a mpc2000

I see guys doing it on the youtube vids, and they mute the sound by hitting the pad (that has that sound). I can't figure out for the life of me how to do that. Any help will be welcomed.

I have the XL and it has a "Track Mute" button right next to the "A" Bank button, and the pads coincide with the tracks Pad 1 = track 1, etc....
It should be in the manual, I don't know what page.

In the main screen, highlight the 'track on/off' field. Press open window. All 64 tracks are avaiable by pressing the pad bank button.

you should take soe time to read the manual, there is a lot of useful info in there.

To his credit, they dont actually tell you how to do that in the 2000 manual. The regular 2000 manual doesnt tell you a lot of things (ie track muting screen & automation screen etc) It may have been covered in amendums with the new OS releases though. I found out aabout it on the net.

Aha. You're right. The track mute was only available in later updates, along with manual updates. And they are no longer available from akai!

i used to use the track mute screen, but now i just sequence my mutes. i like the results a lot better.

why'd you go and do that? I had this nice soapbox response for your "read the manual" comment, that may have gotten on you and your fellow "read the manual" cohorts nerves........Anyways thank you for answering my question.

Nah seriously, I have the updates and original manual addendums and have read through them several times, it just didn't occur to me that there are different versions which some people might not have...

i record track mutes by holding down the play button and pressing rec during playback.

be sure to work off of a copy of the orginal seq because this method can not be undone.

I think you can do this using the erase button as well....

Hmmm... time to pull out that manual again... where on earth did I put it?

Thats a real comment right there, some of the others in this forums (*cough* the ones who everyother word out of their mouth is "read the manual") should take heed to.

I have a 2k classic. mine doesn't have an erase button.

i have one too, and it sure does.

Here is how

Go to your main screen while your seq is playing.

to the right of your track number you have "on" (or "off" if that track is muted) .Highlight "on" now open window...

There it is the same track mute screen the mpc2000xl has.



Now by pressing your drum pads is will mute out tracks
