MPC 2000XL and a computer...

Hi, I bought a MPC 2000 XL and I am waiting it to be delivered... Aaaarrgghhh!!! And I have questions about the assets of having my (future) MPC connected to a computer. What can you do with this configuration ?? Just transfer sounds from one to another or complete sequences ? Stupid question...: In case of transfering sequences the famous "groove" of the MPC is not lost when you transfer it on the computer Is a computer a must-have ??

The famous 'groove' depends solely on the skills of the button pusher, there is NO magic groove about an mpc, the mpc is just a rock solid hardware sequencer/sampler. To transfer sequences from an mpc2000xl to a pc save the sequences on a disk (zip/floppy) and then read it in the pc. A computer is no musthave whatsoever. I use my mpc as a stand alone machine.

i have a computer and was thinking about getting an mpc 2000xl. i did some research on the mpc and how it will used with the computer.

the result: im not getting a mpc anymore. i could spend the $ on other equipment and software. i bought reason 2.5 and that does all i ever wanted to do. plus, mpc is 16 bit while reason is 24 bit which make the mpc look like childs play. plus more programs are dropping support for the mpc.

I just use my pc to run vst's. I'm gonna start using it for tracking(i used to used a roland vsr). I like hardware....i find it a headache most times using the pc for just the vst's cause i'm used to having modules. If i had it all to do over I would have kept my sound modules and would just use the pc for tracking.

I was planning to rackmount one of my computers and run steinberg v-stack and vsti's through a terratec phase 28 so that each software synth gets an audio out and two inputs for sampling and get an emu rack for bread and butter sounds. Then control it with my mpc. that will save costs and future proof my setup. So I was wondering LSA100x, if you can pm the details of your setup and issues on stabitity.

I don't know how to PM...but it's not that deep. I just Use Cubase to run my VST I's and there's always problems. Everything eventually ends up in my MPC(i sample EVERYTHING-even the original stuff), so it's more a problem with crashes. Whenever i step away it'll lock up. I hate having to do all of the settings in the PC. I'm just a hardware dude. It's not an indictment of PC's...it's just my personal preference. OUtside of tracking....everything i tried with the pc just seemed way too tedious. All things being equal I wish I had my modules back. I wanted to use VST's for a different sound...but it's not worth all the configuration head aches.

PC is just not stable enough for audio, all professionals in the music industry use Mac. I want to invest in one but don't have the dough yet, if you can afford it its' definitely the right move to run whatever software you will use. ASK ANYBODY... it's true

Sirus - It depends on your PC and what's it equip with. I have custom buildt PC running @ 1.6 or 1.9 Gighertz, 512 MB DDR, 30 GB hard drive, soundblaster Platinum w/Front Bay midi connections and normal video card and everything works fine. I even used tutor's tutorial on installing a zip drive in MPC so I can transferr files in between my PC and MPC and that's tight too but Toecutter is right about the performance between a MAC and PC. I have experienced lockups from applications not the OS though. Use Windows 2000 if you have it or XP. Oh yeah never format your zip of floppy from the MPC. It will screw up your disk if you try to move files back and forth from both devices. It's best to keep it PC format only.

and that pc would easily cost 4 bills. I'm sticking with my MPC! Music is to be heard not seen

noble5 dropped some good sense. To add on that, the reason why computers have so many problems is because of all the variables on what can go wrong with driver conflict, program conficts and operating system bloat. I have a celeron 633 with 384MB of ram running win2k tweaked and ONLY adobe Audition with Spinaudio's vst wrapper. It never crashed on me since I set it up this way. I even ran 8 stereo and 10 mono tracks (26 total) before I got gliches and drop outs. My pentium 4 2ghz laptop and my p3 1ghz family copmuter crash often, hmmmm I wonder why?
