MPC paramedics ATTN...

Hey, I got a s2000 8 outs board, it won't work in my mpc though? The ribbon connector fits fine, but with the board in, the mpc won't go past "detecting memory".

Is there another step besides screwing the board in and mounting the ribbon cable?

I know this is supposed to work but maybe Akai put a fix on the MCD so it doesn't anymore, thats all I can think of.

$$hit now it looks like i fukkked up the mpc : (

after removing the card, I now get a -20db sound at all times in the sample screen,

and the pads aren't working.........

wtf did i do? the sequencer still runs ok and samples load up fine. i feel like i may have jolted something relating to the motherboard? or possibly is it because i didn't de-staticify myself before doing the work?

luckliy i know a good mpc tech in nyc, may have to pay him a visit..........??

bump.....cmon doesn't anybody have any advice/ ideas

is this what would happen if i gave the board a static charge? did i maybe unseat a cable on the upper side of the motherboard, between the pads and board?

sequencer works, but not pads, no sound working but will "sample" and load samples as well...but not play them back...

Did you take the board out again to see if things return to normal? Check every connection internally to see if something's not plugged in properly.

It is possible that you may have damaged something by not grounding yourself, but to make sure you do it properly:

With the mpc plugged into the wall, but off, touch the metal case. Then unplug the power chord before proceeding. It helps to not stand on carpet while you're working on it.

It is more difficult to destroy something by static than not, but it all depends on so many factors you can never be sure.

I didn't check the connections on the flip side of the main board. I guess i should do that....not sure how much unscrewing and plugging i would have to do to remove that? but i would assume that to check all the connections I would have to actually unseat the board to get to the back of it?

Oh, i did try to remove the board and it didn't help. The strange thing is, now even with the board removed, the mpc thinks there are 8 outs in it from them mixer .....Very strange!!

I don't think those 8 outs work on the MPC....and vice versa...

You sure it is the IBM208P for akai S-2000 and MPC 2000/xl? Apart from that...

I think it is time you paid that mpc tech a visit now...

I have no answers to your questions, there's just too much strange happenings.

Some of the early S2000 Mutec boards will NOT work in the MPC2000 or XL.

Also are u sure u din't plug the ribbon cable in the wrong way!!!

I think I did plug the cable in the wrong way, the first time I tried it!

Then when I switched it and tried it unpugged, either way it didn't work.

I am going to reinstall the os and see if that helps......?

I think the board might actually be from a cd3000xl or something. not sure tho.

whats the exact make/model of the board?

the board says: PC (#) 8PARA L6036A501A then 430218J made in japan.

all i found on google was the ebay link where the board was sold in the first place on ebay, and a link to a phrase in the cd3000xl manual where it says "8para". it looks alot like a ib-m208p except a couple pieces are small black and not flat white....like next to the ribbon cable...so it looks EXTREMELY similar but not completely identical to the ib-m208p photos I found on google.

btw tried reinstalling the os it didn't work.....

i miss my mpc but it will be back in action very soon. Nothing can stop me.
