(((((Recording a mute)))))

I was wondering if it's possible to record a pause or mute in your beat live with going into step edit. I know in the mixer window if you press open window you have a choice to record mixer changes but I still don't know how to use this feature. Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes you can... lets say your beat is @ 92 BMP's..new create a new sequence with the BPM set to 92 BPM's...here you go here's your mute.. you just dont sequence anything just leave it blank..

Cool! Thanks Kaymir i'll try that tonight. I guess either i'm not asking the question properly or it just can't be done but what I would like to do is just mute one track or solo a track. I know how to do it but using step edit takes forever. Oh well fu@k it! Thanks for the response I appericate it.

If you want to mute a specific track, as in a drum or solo a track, as in a bassline, the soft keys on the mpc2000 have commands for mute and solo, I am not so sure about the 2000XL though... just play your sequence and press the appropriate soft key when you want to mute...

noble- you will find q's that get viewed but not answered is usually cos its been answered before either in the faq, manual or another post....do utilise the archives theres nuff info in there, and be clever with your searches otherwise you get pages of stuff.......i guess some peeps get annoyed if they have answered a question one week only to have someone ask the same the next week (if some one asks about swing again i'll..i'll...)....so not having a go mate but thats probably why you get 26 views but no replies....

I know what your sayin dubmonkey. I've seen alot of post about swing too. It's not that I haven't read the manual or search the board. Believe me I have done both but got no where. Not sayin that the manual sucks or no one can explain anything on this board either. I think what I want to record can only be done a mixer or PC. I think this is one of those limitations where the MPC can't go. I'm not pissed about though. For those who do have the same question as I do. I find out that by copying the sample I want to mute to anthoer pad returns the result i'm looking for. Meaning using the mute groups. Still this is not the way I want to freak my tracks though. This technique still doesn't hit on time like it should but damn creative though if you use right.

im tempted to scream "read the fukkin manual" but this is a pretty common and important question.

the mpc doesnt work like that though.

you create copies of sequences and delete/add bits instead of it recording your mute/unmutes.

it may seem a bit odd but if you sit and think about it it is merely simplifying the process.

think of it like this, at work work we have a yamaha 02R with fader recall, flying faders... the lot. you can get lost in that kind of automation... sometimes its nice to just rock the MPC with its simple programming.

Yep totally...assign' your muted and unmuted sequences...put them on the pads...remember which pads are which sequence and go for broke....then if you remember which order you played the pads....you will be able to arrange your song by which seq is next and using the next seq key...

Well you cant record the mutes but you could eventually record 'mutes' as mixer automation (just enable record mixer changes).

The way I do it is to first make a sequence (call it 'verse') that is full of elements and then i make several copies of that sequence and then erase stuff out.

thus i have verse1 verse2 verse3 verse4 with different tracks muted and some notes erased out or added in (ex break+snareroll).

usually i make 'backups' of the sequences on #90-99 and then construct the song on 01-20. When im done editing i erase the backups...

The MPC is so versatile. I've worked almost every day on it for 3 years and finally I start to know my way round... I can almost instantly get done what im thinkin gof.. MPC is a godgift!!
