new purhcase. would like your ideas.

ok i have an MPC2000 classic a turntable, i use protools (original mbox) with reason as a plug in sometimes. I have an OK mic. i get the most out of it. with an iMac G4 a nice Maudio Midi controller. Its not much i know. but i make use out of everything. My question to you all is this.

if you had my setup and...

1. $300 what would you buy?
2. $600 what would you buy?
3. between $300-$600 what would you buy?

i have $600 but dont want to spend it foolishly. and would like to add to what i have but dont know what i want. like should i upgrade my MPC or get a new mic or upgrade my protools hardware ETC.

Yea i would say save at least a G for some quality monitors.

Yeah you have a pretty nice setup. Maybe a 4X4 midi interface? Used or new, pretty cheap. Also, how do you hear your computer and your MPC at the same time? You could spend less than $100 and get that 8-10 channel mini soundcraft board, just to have a little monitoring station and multiple inputs gives you options for external sampling cd, turntables, etc. But again, doesn't sound like you 'need' anything.

yes i was thinking of this because if i want to hear my MPC i plug that into my monitors. if i want to hear protools i hook the mbox up to my monitors. but if i want to use both i set up a protools session with an audio track on RECORD so i can hear my MPC while workin in protools. i WOULD like to get something so i can use both at the same time without having to continually unplug from the MPC then into the mbox then unplug the Mbox and back into the MPC. so your saying an 8-10 channel mini soundcraft board will do this for me? can you give me a brand etc so i can look on ebay and craigslist for one? Thanks .

with the above compact 4, you could have mbox and mpc plugged in at all times, plus a dj mixer on the 'playback in'. Then you send the 'monitor outs' of course to your speakers, and you could use record outs to go to
MBox itself, and go spdif out of MBOX into mpc for all your sampling.
With that you'd never need to unplug anything, only turn a couple knobs.

If I had $600 to burn I would buy a snowboard + some bindings (depending on the price). Nothing fancy just to have my own board so I wouldn't have to worry about renting one whenever I go snowboarding.

Your whylin, Im from NYC and I snowboard!! I would def. use that dough for a board, cus renting them is a waste of money!

I'd save it....either in a short term investment, or a savings account with a decent APR.... Maybe by the time you figure out FOR YOURSELF what you NEED, that $600 will actually be $800....

Cosign on the soundcraft board. I have the compact ten and it works perfect for a project studio. It's laid out real nice and the preamps sound a lot better than the mbox pre's in my opinion, and the eq's are on point as well. For the money it's the best mixer out. And you still have quite a bit of loot left over to throw in the bank.
