2000xl vs. 2000xl MCD

What's the diffrence? I have the 2000XL, do I need to get the MCD version instead?

Everything that the XL-MCD has can be added to the standard XL (to an extent the blue paint job even, which is kinda ugly).

I'd keep my XL, and update the options (instant XL-MCD). The only difference feature wise are a few expansion options out-the-box, things you can add to the unit you already have. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

yea pretty much well said /\ the only difference btw the two beside the colors of them(white and blue) is the blue has a stock multi- card drive reader (hence the term MCD) instead of old pre dated stock floppies drives in the white mpc. you can upgrade the drive a old white mpc 2kxl to a MCD in much the same way people install internal zips. MCD are much better than floppies, zips and harddrives bcuz they have no moving parts and that makes them less prone to damage and breakdown failure. the olny way I could see someone buying the blue model if they just couldn't bare to buy anything used. I knew the 1st owner of my white mpc before he sold it to me and knew he didn't use it much so it was mint condition. if you already have a 2000xl keep it and get a mcd reader

Lamps right, they are both identical.

Still, i prefer the look of my blue mcd version over the old XL, not that it matters.

yeah they used a special acrillic in the blue paint that caused the additional weight in the MCD version....this was a lil known secret prior to the huge NDA leak in 2004

Thanks everyone. I've never seen the MCD version up-close, so I didn't know what the diffrence was. I'm new to this whole thing so I'm still learning. My XL is the first peice of production equipment i've gotten. What's the next thing I need? Keyboard? Software? Can I make something really good sounding with just the MPC alone?

The next thing you need is lots of practice, time, trial and error on the 2kxl BEFORE ANYTHING. This will usually will give you an idea of what you need next.

Did that...Now I'm looking into other stuff but I think it's really confusing. I don't know anybody with some gear I could play with so I'm trying to gather as much info as I can on other samplers, midi keyboards, mixers, audio interfaces, ...

The good thing is that the longer I do research, the more I know about gear and the more money I'll have to spend.
