Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I'm not completely familiar with the way spdif coax jacks are mounted to the 8 out expansion board, but I was wondering if there was a way to modify the board to include spdif optical in/out instead of coax. Kind of a random thought but it would actually make my life easier (might help other people too). I'll contact Forat and VST to see if they know, but if anyone here is tech savvy please feel free to let me know.

Lamp,

Thanks man. I'm actually using the ones that you linked to second. It would so nice to have optical without going through a converter but it would most likely be more trouble than I'm looking for. A while back I read that you couple swap out rca/1/4" jacks pretty easily but it might be a different ballgame with digital jacks.

I've been tracking out via spdif coax --> optical converter --> directly into the built-in optical input on my macbook pro and I'm extremely impressed with the result. The quality (lower noise floor) is so much better that it makes recording 1 track at a time worth the wait. It would be convenient to be able to bypass the converter but it's all good.

I use the optical spdif out on my triton the SAME way you just described.

triton into digi001 into vegas. I track as many times as I need. I have NO NOISE floor. I've vu'd down to -120db and I have NO noise, completely no noise registered on any meter I check it with.. It's amazing, crystal clear that I could not imagine with anything else besides my setup now.

mpc into triton active line in, triton extreme acts as a mixer w/ triton effects, just lovely. everything out optical.

Yep :) It's the only way to fly.
