Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
ByP-nut Fri Dec 26, 2003 8:00 pm
Somebody help me before my MPC goes flying out the window!

I turn it on, it says 'wait' - I wait/

Then it says 'detecting memory...' - and that's all it does . It just stays on that screen and never loads!

I'm sure I'm doing something really basic and stupid but I can't work out what.

I''ve tried it with the Zip plugged, unplugged etc, just can't work it out.

Go on, make my christmas and tell me what's going on

Cheers

did you put in the ram yourself?
make sure the sticks are all the way pushed in....
or remove em and make sure they click...
be sure to ground yourself before you mess around with the innards of your MPC.
it sounds like a ram problem...when did the problem start?

Thanks wintermute

It's been turned off for about 3 weeks - before that it was fine.

The only thing I put in myself was the 8 audio out expansion board a couple of years ago.

Is the ram easy to spot if I open it up?

the memory will be located UNDER the MPC. You can look at http://www.mpc2000xl.com and there will be some PICS there. I DO NOT OWN THIS PIC, MIKE from MidiCase owns this pic and all rights are reserved to him, but here is the PIC. The MEM is located to the lower left hand corner.

yeah RAM is the two white strips on the lower left of that pic
it appears to be empty in that picture
if your MPC is using the standard memory (2mb i think?) then it is empty if i recall(?)
but if you put in more ram then itll be in those strips there
if its having trouble detecting the RAM maybe you knocked one out during install of the 8 outs etc.
give it a check i spose
make sure to ground yourself (touch something metal so if you got static electricity on you it is discharged)
