Problems With Card Reader And Mac

I recently picked up and installed a card reader for my 2kxl. I formated my CF card and copied some files on it on my Imac. Now when I open it up and navigate to the deepest directory I cant Left cursor out i have to reboot or reload the card to get out. Read post on here somewhere and somepeople where having the same problems. All solutions varied none where easy some ran Win Xp parallel and copied files from there and so on. Does anyone know a easier way. I dont want to go out and buy Parallels and XP just to copy files. I got kids to feed. LOL. format the card on the mac with Fat or Fat16.

then only use 8 characters in file names and folder and you should be fine.

At the risk of sounding like a newb how do i format the card to Fat16 on a Mac also if I already have some files on the CF cards will it erase them. I know about the no file names over 8 letter thing to. Kind of give me a step by step like a 5 year old. LOL. Thanks in advance!

I did a search (here and on Google) to try and find a way to format the card under OSX to Fat16 as I'm in the same situation as yourself (or at least I will be when my MCD drive gets here this week). So I'd like to know as well. I'd imagine it involves using command line in Terminal.

I did see mention in another thread of not making deep folders possibly helping when using OSX. Try just making one folder off the Root and see if that helps. Again, I haven't gotten to try this yet, but I just thought I'd throw it out there.

you could get a friend to format the card on a windows pc to fat/fat16, should be readable by both mac, pc and 2k then

I had a similar problem under windows. I got the card reader and already wrote some files to it with my mpc before trying to read/write it with my laptop. I'm a computer programmer so I know how to format a disk but windows wouldn't let me. It said it couldn't format the card since it was in RAW format.

So I downloaded the mpc-editor and formatted it with that. Worked great apart from the 8 character limit. Dunno if mpc-editor is also for mac.

Yeah that might work wit not making deep folders ill try that too. Im using Mpcpgmmaker for mac thats working for me. If anyone else knows anything input appreciated.
