is the mpc really worth the money ???

its a lot of loot to be giving up that quick you know what im saying

Just read about how satisfied all the forum members are with their MPC's.
It's a great machine and you won't regret it. Notice, I'm not saying it's perfect but it does alot for the money. Best of all it's a sampler and you can ALWAYS get new sounds..

worth every penny ...


the mpc`s are the best sampling/drummachine/sequencer`s on the face of earth don`t know about the rest of the galaxy..

True, the MPC isn't a cheap product, but I agree with Lampdog, it is the best sampling drum machine out here (no disrespect to the SP1200). I have no regrets in shelling out the money for mine. I couldn't afford it at first either, so I copped a used Boss DR-550 drum machine to learn how to program beats. Once I mastered that, I saved my pennies for 3 years and was finally able to buy my MPC. Trust me, you won't regret it, it'll be the heart of your studio set-up.

If you are on a low budget I woud either go with the 2000xl or the 1000. I had the regular 2000 and now i have the 1000. Im pleased with both but I think the 1000 gives your more options. The only thing the 1000 doesnt have is timestretch and reverse, but that could be easily done after you transfer the sound to your computer and use a software to do it. Just givin you my two cents.

...effects and all that shit are over rated, b/c what you're doing is pre production...all that shit that they have at the studio is going to be better than just what's in that box anyway...

...one way to tell that the 2kxl is the bang for the buck...look at the price...since the 1k dropped it's not changed...ie the 2kxl is a better machine if you can afford it...

feeling this thread. let me ask: how solid is the 2KXL? I am assuming very as it is industry standard but I do read about crashing and whatnot. is that rare or the rule?

i am in the market for a new sampler and the 2kxl is really the only one I can rationalize getting, maybe the new Roland joint but I want to jump in and start doing beats and I've been studying the 2kxl for a while now. it just makes sense to me. there would be somewhat of a learning curve but not that bad.

i just need to know if it is solid...also, how hard is it to install the 8 outs? Can I do it myself? Thanks all.

the 2kxl doesn't crash that much...

...if you backup your disks properly/thouroughly there shouldn't be a problem...

If you want to put it your way, then the 1000 is the bang for the buck if you dont need the effects, its funny how you probably never even messed with the 1000 and your saying the XL is better. And then you say that what they have in the studio is better. Maybe this dude aint gonna be going to a big f*ckin studio. Maybe his boy got a studio at his crib witout all the big shit your talkin about.

I've not played with the 1000, but I've read about it...I've had my XL for awhile, and use the reverse function frequently...I've also been to big studios where there is more equipment, much of it better than what I have at my home studio...

...maybe he's really tryin to get premium sounding product...which at some point is going to need compression, eq'ing, and effects added...

...you can only go so far with the equipment that you have...you can only get so much equipment for the money you have...me I'm next to broke, so puttin a sample on a computer, and choppin reversing it there isn't an option...I was tryin to impart this to the man asking the question...

...why waste money on a box with effects when 1, you don't really know how to use them, 2, at some point you're going to go into a larger studio (if you're serious about your project), and when there you have those effects at your disposal along with the engineer who knows how to use them, and may end up wanting a "dry" sound to start from...

...if you can't get top of the line don't go half...max out what you can/where you can...then add to your collection and not have to upgrade...

Yes you can install the 8outs and eb16 yourself with no problem, just take it slow so as to not bend or break anything. Also don't force anything into place.
My MPC has crashed on me I can remember like twice since I bought it lback in 2001. That was with the old OS, when I went to the newer 114 I never had any problems, even when I installed an internal zip250 and eb16 ,I have no problems (knock on wood)..
