ok i am going to buy a ZIP disk full of samples of SP-1200. i was wondering if i connect my ZIP drive to my computer and use the ZIP disk on my computer to add and take away samples, will it mess it up? Cause i heard somewhere that if i take a zip drive from mpc to comp, it gets messed up.

From what I understand, if you're running Windows/XP, you should have no issues moving files around between the two machines.

If you're using a Mac running OSX, then you may have issues.

not if you format in fat16 in OS-X and stick to 8 or less character names for the sample and the folders, then you have no problems.

And i thought you had to worrry about XP rewriting over the file alllocation table in track 0 of the zip, in essence making that zip a huge mess of files??

maybe im wrong on the XP part, but if your on OS-X, format to fat or fat16 they are the same thing, and stick to 8 or less charaters in the name. and keep one or zip labeled zips for transfers only. you should never risk a zip that has the only copy of your PGM files on it ever!

I haven't noticed any major issues beyond browsing files on the MPC and I'm running OSX. I do make sure to keep my folder and file names eight characters or under.

I am however going to get another disk for saving my work that will never see the computer as I've read this advice in another thread.

The mpc formatted disk will alow 16 character filenames.

It cannot be read by computer.

yea I know, I am a total lame, just for not even backing my shit up, in the first place. somebody warned me about zips too but I was just happy to have a mpc that I overlooked what might go wrong. last year I never even heard of this site and i didn't do my homework when it came to looking up issues.I was feeling like zips were the best thing since slice bread compared to floppies. I never knew that you could install card readers in white old 2000xl's. this forum ,the midicase link you posted and a sample king dvd guided me into my education to be comfortable using the 2kxl
