2000 classic won't load/save from zip/floppy :(

sup ya'll,
i have a problem with my og 2000!
i have been working with it for maybe 7 days and the problem appeared the first time when i attempted to load prg or snd from a floppyd. .
the first 2 days i was reading the full manual 2 times and i got a "disc read error!!", ...i would say, 4 of 10 times,when i wanted to laod files. i thought it's the floppy disc, but the problem got bigger everyday, and now my mpc gives me ONLY disc read errors.

i NEVER got a disc read error when the mpc loaded the OS from my os floppy!
i can view files on both devices and scroll through them, i just seems the machine has a big problem loading and saving some files from the zip, and NOW any file from the floppy.

so, same thing with my iomega zip 100MB now.

first time working with it, i was able to save and load a file perfectly.
today i was picking samples from records and saved them on a zip.
now i get scsi read error with 4 of 10 files i want to load from it.
any idea what this could be about? is the machine focked up?

i have spend the whole week going through all functions the mpc has to over and i tested everything....now this...

now is it that the floppy drive + zip drive are broken or is it the mpc?
if you can contribute anything helpful it will be really apprechiated!

i just formated a floppy, so i can say this function is fully working though.
filled the same floppy disk with other samples from my computer drive.
put it back in the mpc. load files. no problem.
going to test zip now.

sounded like that could be it, but i could only solve the problem with the floppy that way.
i have realized that i didint use partitions while formating the zip disk.
i will try to load files from the zip again, but before formating it with partitions. also i will try it with another zip disk!

time has gone by....
i got some other zip disks and another scsi zip. also an usb zip for my pc.
i have read about the "blown scsi fuse" on the forums.

pls folks its driving me nuts. if anybody can help, pls do so.

the problem is the same all the time. i save data to the disk. and before i load them. i can scroll through all the saved files. no problem! when i want to load my files, i get an "scsi read error" on the SAME FILES all the time.
so, i can load in most of the files that i have saved, but its always 2-3 TEH SAME files that i cant.
when i want to read the particular disk, with my usb zip, it cant read sh it. all of the data is corrupt.
so what i want to know, could this be the scsi fuse?
damn this is driving me NUTS..

at first I would have said it could be the zip drive corrupting your files/disks. it happened to me. It started with one disk then every zip disk I put in after that got f'd until I ran out of disks. But you said you got another zip drive and disks and its still giving you problems. if its letting you load everything BUT the few other files then maybe its the files that are corrupt?

Its definately not the mpc causing the problem (I dont see why it would be). I've read all kinds of problems with zip drives/disks. its to the point now where I expect something to happen to the drives after a while.

well try downloading the OS again like lamp said onto a NEW floppy disk. pop that in and see if that does it.

also, have you tried loading the same problem files using the usb zip drive? can your computer read them or do they give you problems there, too? If your computer cant even read those few files then it has to be the files that are corrupt. if the computer can read them fine then something must be happening with the disk/drive........

ps. dont throw your machine out the window just yet. and if it makes you feel any better, i been usin floppies for the last year(?) so dont trip. takes longer to load/save but you really get used to it.

yea like i say. it SEEMS that my mpc saves these files badly....i dont see why the mpc should cause the problem either. if it would be a software problem, it could be solved with a new OS. easy. if its hardware thats causing the problem. then why would some files be ok, most files, and always 2-3 files would come out corrupt. if its the mpc hardware, then it wouldnt function at all? right? wrong?...
i dont get it. oh and to answer your question. if i put the disk into the USB floppy to read. IT CANT READ SH.IT. i mean NO FILES FROM THIS DISK.

What kind of files are they that are not loading? Are they wav files? sequences? pgms? it just seems like somehow those particular files were corrupted during the save process. And when the drive reaches them, it cant read them and gives you an error. If it were all your files then maybe we could say your drive is bad. Like I said, my drive went bad out of nowhere one day and wouldnt load anything else. I put all my disks in the drive and it corrupted every one of my disks. Then I put the disks in my USB zip drive to see if the computer could load them (stupid mistake) and the disks actually corrupted my USB drive so that quit working, too!!

Its like everything spread from my one bad scsi drive through my disks into my USB drive. Have no idea what caused it.

Anyway, have you tried making a new beat, saving your files (ALL SEQUENCES & SONGS, SAVE A PROGRAM) then loading them back up again? Maybe try a test beat or something just to see if you're able to save and load that back up ok. If so then maybe its just those few files that were bad. If not then I would definately say something is up with the drive. I also read somewhere that the cable coulld be the cause of certain problems. But not sure if that true or not...

Chances are good that you have a blown SCSI fuse due to hot swapping
the drive (plugging it in or out while the power is on). In some cases you
can still load and save but with intermittent problems like you're having.
I would recommend sending it in for repair, it should be about $75 for the
repair if that's the problem.
