Every time i try to resample something to 12 bits, my mpc will freeze up and the re-sampling ______ will just stay on the screen. Am i doin something wrong or is could there be something wrong with my mp?

How long did you wait before restarting the machine ?
From my experience I can tell you, that sometimes it takes some more time that we wish to wait for a simple downsampling ;)

Anyway,be patient and it should finish the job. By the way, the same thing goes to timestretching...if you use it on very long samples, it will give you hard time with waiting.Better press 'DO IT' and go make yourself a nice cup of tea right away before you get completely mad

nothing's wrong. the mp is just slow in some ways and this is one of em. take delo's advice and brew some nice green tea

thanks for the input..do yall find the resampling on the mp to do a good job, will it give a sound that extra griminess? i still havent got a chance to test it out ive been a way from my mp for a few days

It does a good job... depends only how much time have you got? :)
Anyway, I suppose sometimes it is a useful trick to downsample some sounds to lower rate.

can i change it so when i sample something it automatically samples it to a lower bit rate like 16 for instance? or is that not possible.

once i went out for dinner and drinks came back 3-4hours later and it was still going, i was trying to resample a massive stereo loop. i wasnt aware back then it was more gear towards one shots, and drum hits, which it works fine for.
