Brand new beat composer

Help. I'm stuck between The 1000 and the 2000xl. I'm just gettin into making beats but hear cats like 9th wonda and hi tek and get like man i wanna do that. so if any one is willin to take someone under their wing the kid would be most grateful. PLEASE...... i dont have much money but lots of drive and talent

Keeping on the real homie this is an expensive game. As for where to start that not only depends on your finances but your strengths, your goals and most of all your dedication to this craft. As for someone taking you under their wing you have a whole forum at your disposal 24/7. First things first you gotta figure out which route you plan to grow with. You got your outboard gear which the MPC 1000, the 2000 & the 2000XL fall under and then you got your software route using your PC. That doesn't mean that you can't mix these two together but these are the first steps to getting started focused and on the right foot. I've never played with the new MPC 1000 so I would be biased and suggest you get the MPC 2000XL. A turntable which doesn't have to be a 1200 or close to it. And an external zip drive. If you don't have a zip drive in your computer I would strongly suggest you either get one or cop the MPC 2000XL with the floppy drive. That way you can download sound from the net free and paid for to name a couple instances. et a decent sound module perhaps the Mo Phatt and play with those for awhile. I'll let someone else step in and give you a few more pointers.

you should view some of the posts that say 2000xl vs. 1000 to get information on both. I would do alot of research before going to buy something because you might end up not wanting what you bought and wanting to get something else.

If that's true then you're already ahead of the game! As far as I'm concerned you can't really go wrong with either of these machines(time will only tell if the 1000 will be as solid as the 2000XL as far as crashes and what not.) You mentioned 9th wonder in your post, he was making all his beats on Fruity Loops(I'm not sure of he still is), but that's a perfect example of drive and talent, he used what many would consider an inferior and toy like product and banged out a track that Jay-Z put on his last album. Drive and talent!

Have you played with either machine yet? If so, you can decide which one youre more comfortable with or which one fits into your buget. Cause Blaz4me is right, this is an expensive game. And if youre planning on getting in it (which Im sure you are) be in it to win it! Casue the last thing you want is to buy a ish load of ill equipment and have it for a few months then decide that you dont wanna do this music ish anymore. You got the will, the drive, the talent? Those are some top qualities that should be with every beat maker. When you do decide on a machine for you, keep bangin them beats homeboy! Have fun with it, experiment, experiment, experiment...dont forget, youve got a gang of friendly MPC heads here to help you out with anything ....peace
