sample dump to an sp12 from an akai mpc2000XL

has anyone any knowledge on this proceedure? has anyone ever tried to sample dump to am sp12/1200 from an akai mpc2000XL?

Well first the SP-12 doesn't have SDS so that's not gonna happen.
Then with the SP1200 the only device I have ever been able to do consistent sucessful dumps with has been the EMAX I.
The SP1200 has funny mapping and some other quirks about having to create a sample to dump the sound into that pretty much cause you to have to dump 1 sample at a time.
You can resample from one machine to the other a lot easier.

thx guys for the construtive replies. yeah analog is the easiest ways. the SP12 CAN do sample dump, according to the emulatorarchive site. there was even a program for old macs called DRUM FILE that could do this with pretty fast results for its time, approx 2 minutes for the 5 seconds of sound!!! however seeing as this is outdated software and the mpc 2kxl has sample dump, i thought it might be possible, i am still waiting for my 2kxl to arrive. i know a lot of people are spoilt by having compactflash, hard drives and the like so i won't expect many people to be up on this type of thing. but when your on a budget...

I am trying to figure this out as well. According to the discussions at the sp1200 forum, there is some debate as to whether sp 12s are capable. Here is a quote about how to do it from that site's frequently asked questions:

How do I do SP to MPC Midi Dumps?

1.

Plug in the MIDI OUT from the SP to the MPC MIDI IN.

2.

Set the parameters of the SP to MIDI Channel 15 and POLY with PITCH KEYS OFF.

3. Set the MPC MIDI IN to MIDI CLOCK and receive all channels.

4.

Go to Shift MIDI -> Dump on the MPC... You should be able to use the default settings that come up.

5.

Press the RECEIVE button on the MPC (at this point nothing should happen, so wait.)

6.

Next go to the SP and enter SETUP 23 -> 23 and then press the pad of the sound that you want to send.

7.

You should now see 'transmitting' on the SP and see 'receiveing' on the MPC

8.

If the sound transfers successfully, then you should be able to go to Shift Program to find the sound that was transmitted... It will probably be named 'sound001' or something similar to that.

9.

You now have to tune the sound down to -96 in the PARAMS of the chosen sound in the program on the MPC.

And thats it...

Note: Make sure your MPC's MIDI CLOCK is set to 'ON' on the respective MIDI IN (1 or 2)

Also Note: Make sure the SP is set to transmit: OMNI

I tried to follow the directions and couldn't get it, but I have zero experience with midi. Let me know how if you figure it out. I'm still trying.

No it can't.
The SP1200 had that as one of it added features along with the built in diagnostics so you wouldn't have to install the DeBUG eprom to test the unit like on the SP12.
The SP12 did a proprietary transfer.
Anyone who has ever owned the SP12 knows that it doesn't even have the menu option for it.

According to the emulator archive the sp12 is capable with a certain os:

Quote: "MIDI Sample Dump The SP-12 (OS 2.4+) does support MIDI sample dump and a user who has the SP-12 used by Phil Collins, reports a new OS version and MIDI sample dump lsited on the front panel."

However, according to the sp1200 archive, that is a mistake. I can't find the quote now, but I've read where some one posted that the quote on emulator archive was a mistake. Also, I tried to sample dump following the above directions, and I couldn't find the menu option. (I have the sp12 turbo, os version 2.5) If anyone ever figures it out, I would love it. I guess that I am just going to have midi slave it to the mp, or resample it with an extra digital/analog conversion.
