think my first mpc has some faults, can anyone help

I think the note variation slider doesnt work. Im a total newbie and its my first mpc bought secondhand. Ive tried using it as described in the manual...unless im totally mistaken nothing seems to happen, therefore should I assume its gone? Ive heard these parts go from time to time...

Therefore i was wondering, is it just a case of buying this replacement slider http://www.cimplespares.com/product.php/11281/25/ , and will it work? or is there likely to be a deeper problem?

Im guessing its just like mixer crossfaders that wear out?

Yes, your variation slider is most probably at fault. This is a very common fault on pre-owned mpc's.

Bare in mind that you'll need to open up the mpc, unsolder the old variation slider and re-solder the new one back in it's place. This can be quite a tricky task if you are a noob at soldering/low level electronics.
