Is this cardreader going to work on my 2000xl ?

Hi folks!

I got my MPC 2000 XL a couple of days ago including a scsi harddrive , but unfortunately there is no driver available anymore for my old scsi interface...

so now i'm thinking of getting a ide cardreader , now following question :

is this one going to work without any problems?

question number 2 : I live in Germany , is there going to be a problem with the Voltage as we have 210 V here or doesnt it matter?

question 3 : if it works , do I have to install any drivers for this thing or should the MPC recognize it as an ATAPI device automatically?

well running on 210V shouldnt matter as long as the mpc runs off it then the card reader will to since it runs off 5V converted inside the mpc so no worries.

now that exact same drive is in question in another thread on this same page at this moment, and im wondering myself if it will work or not......tho it should, as long as it has jumper settings on it.

and if you need to install any type of drivers, then it wont work, mpc doesnt use drivers.

Do a quick search and you shall find all the answers except if that drive will work hahahahaha, no one has answered that just yet.

oh and to your "it should work as long as it has jumper settings" :

i have an old ide cardreader here , had it instaklled and jumpered in any possible way and it didnt work!

problem is it's also a noname product , so i'm kinda scared of buying crap again :/

ya the problem wasnt that it had the jumpers, it was probably just an IDE drive.

you need an IDE/ATPAI drive with jumper settings.

im hoping someone will chime in soon, cuz if not im going to see what the return policy is, and if i can return it, ill buy and try.

yep its gotta be atapi, on that note not all atapi drives work, some of them make your screen do weird shit.

yeah i've heard of the display problem...it happens on the only ide cardreader
u can buy here in germany , and the crappy thing costs 80 bucks

On a note related to the SCSI drive:

I don't think you need a driver to use the MPC with a SCSI HD:

If you have the right cables you simply set the drive to a SCSI ID other than 5 or 6 (5 is for ZIP, 6 for MPC itself) (my SCSI HD is set to ID #1), attach the appropriate cable (while the MPC is turned OFF!!!), turn on the MP, go to load/save screen and choose "format" you can partition the drive and all - it should work fine if you have OS 1.14 like I do.

It's nice to have both the card reader and SCSI HD so you can make backups...

Thank you very much , thanks to u I found a shop in the Netherlands that ships them things cheaper than from the us , which is kinda logical

but anyways , now I can rely on information based on the experience of you which is kind of comforting

What OS are you running and what is the make and model number of your SCSI card?

It *shouldn't* (key word) be that difficult to find a driver for your i-face (IF its not plug-n-play) unless its some real old card.

yeah , the scsi card is from my dad , meaning it was bought like more than 10 years ago , the companie doesn;t exist anymore and thats why i cant find any drivers for that thing!

edit : i'm running win xp pro on my PC , gonna look 2morrow for the model and model number cause I'm gonna hit the bed now , kinda late here in Germany
