I can't take it back because I bought it off ebay trying to save dough. Everything else works perfect so I guess I will do all my editing in the computer and load up in the mp and get right. It will be tedious but it could be worse. So I'm just cool that I finally got an MP. Hopefully it will last until I scape together bread for a brand new joint with MCD. Peace and thanks alot ya'll.
If you picked up that joint off of eBay, you can report the joint as defective if it won't sample or play any output, especially if you paid with PayPal, ESPECIALLY if the seller didn't say the unit was defective or if they didn't sell it AS IS. Get what you paid for B!
Have you tried turning up the output on the mixer? Depending on the mixer make sure you turn up the right output. My mixer has 2 or 3 different outputs, and the level for each is controlled independently by a different knob. You shouldn't have to turn the record gain that high on the MPC. I try to keep mine about half way up. I never like turning the record gain up to full blast on any equipment.
Try a different sample source also if you can, something with a native line level output. And always check the manual. There could be some real simple thing you are missing. I had that happen the other day with the playback level of 2 samples I was working with. Turns out that the output level in the mixer screen was way low for the 2 pads. I've only been working with an MPC for less than a year. I didn't know that was even possible.
As far as scraping doe together for an MCD joint, you can get an external MCD for your 2K (after you get everything else working right of course). I just picked one up last week. I'm still evaluating how well it works but so far I'm pleased. Threw an internal card reader in my studio PC and transferring samples between PC<-->MPC is a breeze, though it wasn't all that difficult with my Jaz drives. The Jaz drives just took up more space and made more noise.
Peace,
