Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

What up ppls!!! Just a quick question....I am using Reason as a sound module and sequencing with the MPC2k. That part is great but when I went to record the midi data back into Reason I got nothing. Now it's all properly synced so when I press play on the MPC, Reason starts. This is also great, but there is no data going in. Now before the uproar starts, I searched the forum and followed all instructions on how to do this, as well as changed options in the Advanced Midi page in Reason and options on interface (don't know if it would have made a difference). But the point is I exhausted every option before coming up here. Now the funny part is when I was trying to connect the MPC to Reason as a sequencer/sound module combo, one of those connections I used had recorded midi data into Reason, but this was before I knew it was better to record data back into Reason so now I'm trying to figure what the hell it was that I did and trying to reenact that scenario and come up with the answer, but to no avail. So if anyone reads this and has some info on where I may be going wrong, please throw some input this way. Thanks in advance and always much appreciation for the assistance. Peace

PS Don't know if this the right section, but I use the 2k so mods move me if I'm wrong. And if use a 2kxl still let me know what you think as I know some of the connections may be similar. Thanks

I use a MPC2000 and Reason together. I do all the sequencing in the MPC2000 once I have completed everything I arrange it in song mode. Once complete there I save that song as a MIDI file. I then open that MIDI file in Reason. Now in the sequencer screen u will see Track 1, 2, ect basically the amount of tracks u used to make that song. U will then need to use the drop down bar to select the instrument used for each track. For example if u used the Subtractor on track 2 then in the drop down bar u need to select Subtractor so it plays that sound loaded in Subtractor.

U get it now?

But thats how I do it. Works charms. The end results is a great one. If u go to www.soundclick.com/ccproductionsmissdjcoleycole u can hear the beat I did using the mpc and reason. I did all the mixing in reason and then exported it out.

Hey good advice. I just need you to elaborate on a few things....When you say save the midi file are you talking about in the MPC to disk or Reason? And how will it recall the patches used? Will I have to go and select each patch used in the song again? Now I'm not knocking your advice, it seems easy and works so I'm all for it. I'm just trying to get a good understanding so I won't have to hassle anyone up here for help about the same things. But if you could shoot me answers on those ?s that would be cool. Thanks a million! Peace

are u tryin to make the whole song on the mpc or just use it to bang out your drums. I had this problem until the other day. If u can get reason to play along with your mpc your good the next thing is to look on the hardware interface when it says channel 1,2 etc.. if your drums are on the redrum then make channel 1 on the hardware interface and on your mpc it should be 1a also. The only thing i cant fig out now is i have to hit record in reason then the play button on the mpc havn't fig out how to make it record just from hitting the button on my mpc hope this helps.
